Company Description

The Class is a somatic movement and education platform founded by Taryn Toomey, with studios in New York and Los Angeles and a global Digital Studio. Our teachers are the heart of the experience: they hold the room, carry the method, and build the community our students come back for.

Job Description

The Director of Teacher Experience oversees all aspects of teacher talent relations, operations, and professional opportunities, ensuring our teachers feel supported, valued, and connected to The Class while balancing their individual needs with the evolving priorities of the business. You are part scouter, part talent manager, part operator. You will make sure every teacher feels supported, seen, and valued, while building the systems, schedules, and standards that let a passionate, part-time roster deliver an exceptional experience across studios, digital, events and partnerships.

This role reports to the CEO and partners closely with the Chief Experience Officer, Studio Managers, and our teacher training and mentorship leads. It is based in New York and will require bi-annual travel to Los Angeles.

What you'll do

Champion our teachers

  • Serve as the primary point of contact, internal ambassador, and primary communication channel for flagship teachers, so every teacher feels supported, seen, and valued.

  • Keep teacher wellbeing front and center in every decision, from scheduling to brand opportunities to content commitments, while balancing individual needs, professional commitments, accountability, and the broader goals of the business.

  • Foster and enforce a strong and collaborative teacher culture across New York, Los Angeles, and Digital, creating opportunities for connection, recognition, feedback, and community amongst Teachers and within the broader team and student-base.

  • Hold regular one-on-one check-ins and lead annual performance and growth conversations with each teacher.

  • Establish clear communication practices that keep teachers informed, engaged, and aligned with company priorities, expectations, and opportunities.

  • Handle teacher matters with discretion and care, partnering with leadership on employee relations.

Own the teacher life-cycle

  • Own and evolve the complete teacher life-cycle: recruitment, training, onboarding, offboarding, retention, and teacher experience.

  • Work with the CEO and Chief Experience Officer to build and manage a teacher talent pipeline and long term teacher talent strategy, including sourcing, auditions, and selection criteria that reflect The Class method, values, and community.

  • Partner with Teacher Training and Mentor Teachers to integrate teaching quality, methodology, and feedback into broader talent conversations.

Oversee Teacher Operations

  • Manage and mentor the  Teacher Operations Manager, advocating for career growth, development, and exposure opportunities.

  • Oversee all teacher administration and compliance, including policy development, scheduling, sub requests, performance management, and payroll oversight (hours, PTO, and expenses).

  • Lead teacher contract management, renewals, and compensation conversations in partnership with CEO and CXO.

  • Partner with the Studio Managers on the teaching schedule, balancing the student experience, studio performance, digital business needs and teacher availability and growth.

  • Collaborate with Studio Managers to maintain an inclusive, inspiring, and high-performing workplace for all teachers, studio employees, and students.

  • Partner with the CEO and Chief Experience Officer on long-term business planning, schedule and teacher operations, forecasting, and performance reporting.

  • Track teacher performance and engagement data, and turn it into actionable recommendations for the schedule, roster, and development plans.

Amplify teachers beyond the studio

  • Coordinate flagship teacher participation in digital and marketing photo shoots, content production, and brand partnership opportunities.

  • Support flagship teachers in on-camera and Digital Studio work, helping them navigate the unique pressures of being on screen.

  • Steward teacher brand standards and guidelines so every teacher shows up consistently across studios, digital, and partnerships.

Support future teacher tiers and advanced trainings

  • Help us to develop new teaching tiers beyond flagship teachers, that allow The Class to spread the method without diluting the brand, and create more opportunities for teachers globally – from teacher certifications to satellite teacher concepts.

  • Help design and launch a new branch of certified teachers who sit alongside our flagship roster and nurture students moving through certification.

  • Recruit, onboard, and support certified teachers, defining their role, expectations, and how they partner with flagship Teachers.

  • Build the program that supports certified graduates after training, a community of non-employee teachers who stay connected to The Class through resources, mentorship, and continued learning.

  • Shape how the graduate community grows over time, including clear pathways for graduates who may one day join the flagship roster.

Qualifications

What you bring

  • 5 –7 years of experience working with talent, instructors, or creative performers, ideally in boutique fitness, wellness, hospitality, or entertainment.

  • Direct experience as a people manager, including coaching managers and handling complex employee relations issues with discretion.

  • A track record of building talent systems: recruiting and auditions, onboarding, performance reviews, and retention programs.

  • Operational fluency with scheduling, payroll inputs, policy, and compliance for a part-time or hourly workforce.

  • Comfort with data: you can read performance and engagement metrics and turn them into decisions.

  • Experience supporting talent on set or on camera for content, marketing, or partnerships is a strong plus.

  • A personal connection to The Class, and an appreciation of what it takes to hold space for students.

Who you are

  • A talent advocate first. Teachers trust you, and you earn that trust with empathy, fairness, humility, and follow-through.

  • A strong communicator with a warm approach who motivates teams through clarity and compassion.

  • Equally at home in a hard conversation and a spreadsheet.

  • Calm, discreet, and steady with high-profile, creative personalities.

  • A proactive and confident problem-solver who thrives in dynamic, fast-moving environments.

  • Energized by building something: you see what a teacher community could become and put the structure in place to get there.

  • Entrepreneurial, resourceful, and hands-on — ready to roll up your sleeves to make things happen.

  • Flexible and reliable — available for off-hours support and travel between NY and LA.

We repeat one move per song to create sensation in the body and observe our thoughts. In any given Class students can expect guided instruction and a carefully curated playlist to lead them through exercises they are familiar with such as—squats, jumping jacks, and burpees.
