Summary:The Director of Surf Operations manages the day to day deliverables related to Surf Ranch Water Safety, Surf
Experience and Surf Coach departments. This includes day to day management of the Recreational Lake
activities at Surf Ranch. The Director of Surf will report directly to the Sr. Director of Safety, Sr. Director of
Surf Experience and Sr. Director of Coaching.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Responsible for the overall customer facing Surf and Water operations. This includes overseeing the basin, staff, guests and equipment.
- Respond or resolve guest queries, which may relate to services, amenities, and/or Company policies.
- Coordinate activities; resolve guest issues as well as challenges among staff
- Interview and hire applicants for all Surf team positions; train staff; observe and evaluate staff performance.
- Assign daily duties and ensure the teams schedule shifts are accurate and efficient for all Surf related employees. Coordinates schedules within Water Teams management to ensure leadership coverage at all times.
- Provide management and oversight on all departments budgets as they relate to both labor and operational expenses. Works with managers to manage discipline for each line item and overall monthly budget.
- Communicate accurately and in a timely manner, matters which pertain to the delivery of Surf and guest service status/readiness to the General Manager.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that the Surf facility operates smoothly.
- Support requests of all operating groups and departments within Surf Ranch and KSWC in a timely and in a professional manner.
- Ensures all Surf related teams have adequate support, staffing and coordination when Surf Ranch employees are needed in projects outside of Lemoore. Works with Senior Directors to coordinate staffing to support projects outside Lemoore.
- Ensures Manager on Duty coverage is maintained and represented by Water Teams.
- Working with Managers, coordinates training within Water Teams as needed and helps develop growth plans within the Water Teams.
- Assist in the development and implementation of processes which enhance system efficiencies and increase productivity.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with management, vendors, team members and customers/clients.Demonstrate a thorough understanding of creating profiles, managing new cuts, and conducting daily checks on the DMS system to ensure smooth functionality during guest operations.
- Provides growth plans, evaluations and when applicable corrective action for Water Teams Managers.
- Outdoor work conditions will involve weather, noise, and hazardous materials.
- Required to often work extended periods of time.
- Ensure that the facility operates efficiently within the guidelines of all policies and procedures, adhering to Annual approved Budget.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain proficiency in all areas as it pertains to his/her area(s) of responsibilities.
- 5+ years previous experience Surfing or as lifeguard
- 5+ Years managing resort, Surf school, or hospitality operations
- Wave Runner (PWC) rescue experience and training
- CPR/AED & First Aid Certified
- Knowledge of Surf instruction that can be applied to all skill levels, fully incorporating the company’s Water/Surf/Coach training program
- Strong communication skills to communicate to staff during emergency response via hand signals and other communication protocols

- Physically able to swim, swim in rough and deep water, walk or run over rough or uneven surfaces,bend, stoop, lift, push, pull, and carry loads; use hand to handle, or feel; reach with arms and hands; talk, taste, smell and see (both near and far). Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch.
- Must be able to swim at least 550 yards, dive at least 10 feet deep, swim with a 80-pound object for at least 20 yards, and tread water for at least 2 minutes.
- Must be able to watch and supervise groups of students in the ocean and/or bay while coaching technique and supervising safety.
- Must be able to recognize and respond to emergencies and prevent injuries or drowning.
- Ability to lift a person off the bottom and out of the water.
- Perform all skills required for Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR.
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time in outside air temperatures and conditions.
- Proficient, Confident and Comfortable in water.
Pay/Compensation
Full time exempt position: Annual Salary range: 105,000 - 120,000 plus bonus eligible. Compensation depends on experience.
