Job Description

The Director, Strategic Oncology Communications & Media Relations, will serve as a strategic communications advisor and execution lead with responsibility for:

  • Oncology brand communications – developing brand communications strategies aligned to oncology commercial and pipeline priorities; implementing integrated external and internal communications that enhance Jazz’s reputation through brand public relations, data milestones and disease education communications; and driving thought leadership communications that elevate the reputation of Jazz Oncology

  • Media relations – establishing proactive media relations strategies; building and maintain deep relationships with top-tier and industry media; and serving as trusted advisor to CEO and media spokespeople, providing comprehensive media training and interview coaching

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications Leadership

  • Provide communications counsel to the oncology business, providing guidance to senior leaders across Commercial, R&D, Regulatory, Medical, Government Affairs and Advocacy teams

  • Serve as strategic advisor to CCO, CMO and executive spokespeople for proactive media engagements

Execution of Brand Communications Programs

  • Develop and lead external communications strategies for oncology commercial indications and pipeline, including disease education, data and regulatory milestones, and congress visibility

  • Oversee creation and delivery of communications campaigns and materials (press releases, Q&As, key messages, digital content, and briefing documents) for media and other stakeholders

  • Lead communications planning and execution for data announcements, regulatory approvals, lifecycle milestones, and major medical meetings  

  • Manage issues communications and provide rapid response support on emerging external matters affecting the oncology business

Proactive and Reactive Media Engagement

  • Develop and lead comprehensive media relations strategies aligned with corporate, business, and communications objectives to strengthen Jazz's corporate reputation

  • Drive proactive storytelling that advances Jazz's corporate reputation, scientific leadership, culture, innovation, and patient impact

  • Identify and secure high-impact media opportunities across national, business, healthcare, pharmaceutical, science, and trade outlets

  • Counsel senior executives on media engagement opportunities and challenges, and prepare executives and subject matter experts for interviews

Proactive Agency & Budget Management

  • Manage external PR agencies to ensure high-quality delivery of communications programs; oversee associated budgets and resources

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, PR, Journalism, Life Sciences, or related field is required; advanced degree a plus

  • 10-12 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or related fields, is required, preferably within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry; oncology experience strongly preferred

  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic communications plans with hands on execution in a complex, global environment

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex scientific and commercial information into clear, compelling messages

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and work under pressure in a dynamic setting 

  • Demonstrated ability to operate successfully within a dynamic team culture and changing environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead through influence and network. Highly professional demeanor and diplomatic skills. Ability to create effective partnerships at all levels of the organization as a collaborative team player

  • Results-orientation in setting and pursuing aggressive goals, demonstrating a strong commitment to organizational success and managing resources

  • Strong work ethic; highest standards of ethics and compliance with laws

  • Experience managing external agencies and budgets

Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices and we strive to provide employees with total compensation packages that are market competitive. For this role, the full and complete base pay range is:

$191,200.00 - $286,800.00

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, and other pertinent factors. The goal is to ensure fair and competitive compensation aligned with the candidate's expertise and contributions, within the established pay framework and our Total Compensation philosophy. Internal equity considerations will also influence individual base pay decisions. This range will be reviewed on a regular basis.

At Jazz, your base pay is only one part of your total compensation package. The successful candidate may also be eligible for a discretionary annual cash bonus or incentive compensation (depending on the role), in accordance with the terms of the Company's Global Cash Bonus Plan or Incentive Compensation Plan, as well as discretionary equity grants in accordance with Jazz’s Long Term Equity Incentive Plan.
