Position: Director of Specialty Services

This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 sign-on bonus. Eligibility, payment terms, and repayment obligations are subject to the organization’s written sign-on bonus agreement, which will be provided at the time of offer.

Position qualifications:  Master’s degree in a recognized mental health profession preferred; minimum five (5) years' experience in a human services setting, such as a community mental health center, chemical dependency setting, or residential treatment facility; experience must include at least three (3) years of administrative and/or supervisory experience. Licensure in the State of Colorado required. Experience with Medicaid-funded behavioral health services, community mental health centers, specialty behavioral health programs, and regulatory compliance preferred. Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change, develop programs, analyze data, and manage complex operational initiatives. 


Job purpose: The Director of Specialty Services provides strategic, operational, and administrative leadership for specialty behavioral health programs including Case Management, Care Coordination, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), ASCENT (First Episode Psychosis), Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI), and organizational certification activities. The Director is responsible for program performance, quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, workforce development, fiscal stewardship, and the implementation of organizational priorities across assigned service lines.  

Through the supervision of Program Coordinators, the Director ensures specialty programs deliver person-centered, recovery-oriented, and evidence-based services that support Health Solutions West's mission, strategic objectives, and contractual obligations.  

The Director is responsible for identifying gaps in care across the behavioral health continuum and developing innovative care coordination strategies that strengthen service integration, improve transitions of care, enhance community partnerships, and improve access to behavioral health services throughout the Health Solutions West service area. 


Knowledge, Skill & Ability:  ​​​​

  • Ability to provide leadership both independently and as a member of management teams in decision making, implementation, and quality compliance.  
  • Ability to effectively communicate program needs and services to individuals and groups.  
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of management, mental health, and community relations.   
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all patient information per HIPAA regulations, federal and state law, and facility policies and procedures.  
  • Working knowledge of Windows based computer applications to include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Internet access. 
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including computer, copier, fax and multi-line telephone.  
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external customers.  
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.  
  • Ability to exercise frequent independent judgement and initiative.  
  • Ability to effectively assign, prioritize and direct the work assignments and scheduling of staff reporting to this position.  

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand or kneel and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop.  Must have ability to sit for longer periods of time at a computer. Employee must be able to travel between Health Solutions West’ sites or within the community. May be exposed to stressful situations that involve enraged, distraught and/or intoxicated individuals with possible mental disorders. Possible potential for exposure to communicable disease. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Skills Required
