Make your impact within a rapidly growing Fintech Company
Join BILL as a Director, Revenue Accounting and take ownership of the operational core of our financial close function. This role sits within the Controllership and Treasury organization and reports directly to the VP, Controller. Our Revenue Accounting team owns the end-to-end execution of our full revenue accounting function: subscription, transaction, rewards, and multi-element arrangements, plus the cost of revenue and accounts receivable operations that tie directly into BILL's external financial reporting. Every number this team produces flows into BILL's quarterly and annual SEC filings, which means the work here carries real stakes for investors, auditors, and the business leaders who rely on accurate financials to run the company.
This is also a transformational moment for the team. BILL is actively designing and implementing its next-generation core accounting systems, and this Director will have a direct hand in shaping that infrastructure. You'll act as the critical bridge between the Technical Accounting team, core business units, and financial systems, translating complex US GAAP guidance into operational logic and automated workflows at scale. If you want ownership over a high-visibility function at a company that is building the accounting infrastructure to support its next phase of growth, this is the role.
Responsibilities:
- Manage daily revenue accounting operations, ensuring high-volume transaction processing is completed accurately and in compliance with ASC 606 across all BILL product lines
- Own the end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue close cycle, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting for revenue, deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, rewards, cost of revenue, and reserves. Perform regular variance and trend analyses to surface strategic insights for management
- Lead accounts receivable accounting operations, including AR reconciliations, aging analysis, and accurate recording of customer receivables
- Support the strategy, design, implementation, testing, and optimization of BILL's next-generation core accounting systems, serving as the revenue accounting subject matter expert throughout the initiative
- Drive automation and scalability across high-volume transaction data environments, replacing manual processes with systemic logic to support multi-element arrangements and complex transaction matching
- Operationalize accounting policy memos from the Technical Accounting team, translating ASC 606, ASC 310, and ASC 326 guidance into journal entry workflows and ERP configurations across all revenue and AR streams
- Collaborate closely with Finance Operations, Finance Strategy, Billing Support, Product, and Engineering to ensure new product rollouts are fully integrated into the revenue accounting sub-ledgers before launch
- Lead audit coordination as the primary contact for external auditors, maintaining audit-ready documentation for all revenue and AR processes and ensuring zero significant deficiencies or material weaknesses
- Hire, develop, and mentor a team of operational accountants and contractors, setting clear priorities and building team capacity to scale alongside the business
We’d love to chat if you have:
- Active CPA certification and 10 or more years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years leading operational revenue accounting functions at a public company
- Hands-on close ownership across multiple revenue streams: SaaS or subscription, transaction-based payment fees, and rewards or multi-element arrangements, all within a single platform or company
- Working command of ASC 606, ASC 310, and ASC 326 (CECL) in an operational context, with demonstrated experience translating policy memos into journal entry logic and ERP or sub-ledger configurations
- Experience managing high-volume transactional data pipelines and working directly with engineering or business systems teams to define data mapping requirements and drive automation
- A track record as the primary operational contact for external auditors, including ownership of revenue-related SOX controls and audit-ready documentation
- People leadership experience managing teams of accountants or Senior Managers, including both FTEs and contractors
Desired Qualifications:
- Prior experience at a fintech company with a multi-product platform spanning payments, SaaS, and lending products on the same P&L
- Hands-on experience contributing to or leading a core accounting system implementation or ERP migration in a revenue accounting context
- Familiarity with enterprise ERPs such as Oracle, NetSuite, or Workday, and experience with revenue sub-ledger tools or loan servicing software
