The position
As the Director of Research Data Governance, your primary goal will be to develop and execute a cohesive research data governance strategy, aligning with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. You will be responsible for ensuring that the organization's data assets are effectively managed, secure, and leveraged to drive research and development excellence while adhering to geographic and privacy laws and restrictions. You will create a landscape of existing policies and standards within R&ED and establish comprehensive data standards, policies, and procedures. Additionally, you will maintain high data quality standards, oversee compliance with regulatory guidelines, and ensure data integrity across all research activities. Collaboration with research and development teams, data scientists, IT, and legal departments will be essential to define data governance policies and best practices.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Defining and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy aligned with the organization's research and development goals.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and enforce policies for data privacy, security, and ethical use.
  • Building and managing a team of data governance professionals, providing guidance and support.
  • Managing the entire data lifecycle from acquisition and storage to usage and disposal and ensure proper data lineage and traceability.
  • Developing and implementing training programmes to promote a culture of data governance awareness and best practices.
  • Staying abreast of industry trends, evolving regulations, and emerging technologies and drive continuous improvement initiatives while promoting the adoption of innovative approaches to data governance.
  • Providing regular updates to senior management on data governance initiatives, compliance status, and risk assessment findings.


The position is available in Måløv (Denmark) or Oxford/London (United Kingdom).
Qualifications
To thrive and succeed in this position, we imagine you have:

  • A PhD in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or Computational Science with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Solid experience in drug discovery and comprehensive knowledge of the research and development pipeline in Pharma.
  • Broad people leadership experience with a proven track record of creating business results with impact on SVP/EVP level.
  • Deep expert knowledge of research data governance.


The ideal candidate for this position is a strong decision maker and performance driver, capable of driving and impacting the success of the organization, while adapting to changing circumstances and remaining agile in their decision-making. Strong communication skills, both up and down the organizational hierarchy, are also essential, as is the ability to build an effective team. Constructive and innovative feedback will be a key component of this role.
