Position Description

The Director of Quality reports to the Vice President of Safety & Quality and is responsible for the overall management of the Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions. The Director of Quality has the authority to establish and revise repair station policies, procedures, and instructions; serves as the AS9110 Quality Management Representative; and holds final authority for return to service. This role ensures continuous compliance with applicable CFRs, manufacturer requirements, customer programs, and company policies through oversight of inspection standards, methods, and procedures across all repair station activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable rules, regulations, organizational standards, and quality expectations in all Company operations.
  • Directly oversees the Chief Inspector and Quality Assurance Managers.
  • Ensure that quality department objectives are established, managed, remain current, and are updated or revised as necessary.
  • Act as designated liaison for regulatory bodies and accrediting organizations and Interface with customers on quality issues.
  • Represents the repair station in matters of airworthiness and safety with the FAA and with customers.
  • Maintains currency on regulatory requirements and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain regulatory manuals, documentation, records and SOPs.
  • Responsible for conducting risk assessments of the impact of proposed organizational and operational changes on existing and new processes and procedures within the quality department and assist in the development and implementation of mitigation strategies to eliminate or reduce identified risks.
  • Leads the department’s quality audit and corrective action process by providing training, facilitation, recommendations, and leadership, as required to achieve best results.
  • Performs and directs the investigation of quality escapes. Reviews investigation findings, root cause analysis, and works with operations to determine corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure that all inspections are properly performed on all completed work and that proper inspection records, reports and forms, used by the repair station are properly executed prior to returning any component to service.
  • Assures that all technical data used to inspect, or repair aircraft, engines or component parts are current.
  • Assures that no defective, unserviceable, or non-airworthy parts are installed on any aircraft or component part thereof that is returned to service by the repair station.
  • Submits reports of defects and unairworthy conditions to the local FAA Flight Standard District Office in accordance with 14 CFR Part 145.221.
  • Assures that the FAA Form 337 and/or the FEAM Maintenance Release are properly executed.
  • Maintains files of records of all maintenance and inspections in such a manner that the file corresponding to a specific item inspected and repaired can be readily located for review.
  • Responsible for the Repair Station Roster of Management Supervisory and Inspection Personnel
  • Ensures that the outside repair agency and subcontractor approval program including the inspections, as required, of their facilities is accomplished.
  • Reviews and approves work to be performed for 14 CFR Part 121,125, 135 and foreign 129 operators to ensure that 14 CFR Part 145.205 is strictly adhered to.
  • Ensures that the Approved Vendor List is maintained in a current status.
  • Responsible for the Quality Assurance Program in accordance with the Repair Station Manual.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and report on quality metrics, driving data-based decision-making.
  • Ensure the quality management system conforms to the requirements of the AS9110 Standard.
  • Ensure that the processes are delivering their intended outputs.
  • Report on the performance of the quality management system and on opportunities for improvement to top management.
  • Ensure that the integrity of the quality management system is maintained when changes to the quality management system are planned and implemented.
  • Ensure all direct reports maintain currency and competency appropriate for their duties, through continuing education and training as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Safety & Quality.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of CFR Part 145 repair station or 121 air carrier quality assurance experience
  • Must hold an FAA Airframe & Powerplant license with experience in Line Maintenance and/or Heavy Check operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of 14 CFR Part 145 & 121 regulations, FAA & EASA airworthiness certification requirements and other regulatory bodies
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite
  • Excellent Communication skills, both written and verbal. Successful candidate must be able to write effective reports, business correspondence, and manuals.
  • Several years of supervisory experience
  • US citizenship or permanent resident status is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Must be willing to work an irregular schedule and be able to travel when required.
