Position Summary: The Director of Projects provides leadership, governance, and oversight for Barnhart's project portfolio and project management program across the branch network. This role partners with Branch Managers, Project Managers, Regional Leadership, Senior Leadership, Engineering, Fabrication, Fleet, Logistics, IT, and Operations teams to ensure projects are executed safely consistently, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards.

The Director of Projects is responsible for overseeing project status and performance across the organization, maintaining and improving project management processes, identifying risks, challenges, discrepancies, and deficiencies, and supporting project teams throughout the project lifecycle. This position serves as a key resource and advisor to project teams, facilitating communication, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organization, with particular focus on complex and high-profile projects.

Responsibilities:

Project Leadership & Governance

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Barnhart's project processes, tools, and standards.
  • Establish and maintain project governance, reporting, and performance metrics.
  • Ensure project practices align with company procedures, operational objectives, and industry requirements.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, training, mentoring, and development of Project Managers across the organization.

Program Integration

  • Collaborate with IT, Engineering, Operations, Fleet, Logistics, Fabrication, and other stakeholders to integrate project processes into company systems and workflows.
  • Oversee implementation and enhancement of project management tools, reporting systems, and supporting technologies.
  • Ensure project procedures remain current, scalable, and effectively integrated throughout the organization.

Project Oversight & Execution

  • Monitor project pipeline, backlog, resource allocation, and overall project health across the branch network, with additional focus on complex and nuclear-related projects.
  • Provide visibility into project status, key milestones, risks, challenges, and performance trends.
  • Identify discrepancies, deficiencies, execution concerns, and project risks, and work with project teams to develop corrective actions.
  • Interface regularly with Project Managers, Branch Managers, and leadership teams to ensure consistent execution, accountability, and project success.
  • Participate in key project reviews, readiness reviews, contract reviews, and project closeout activities.
  • Support project teams with problem solving, risk mitigation, customer interface, project delivery strategies, and project performance evaluations.
  • Analyze, communicate, and promote lessons learned and continuous improvement opportunities across the project portfolio.

Leadership & Communication

  • Facilitate weekly project review meetings and Project Performance Review Committee (PPRC) discussions.
  • Attend and actively participate in Nuclear Council meetings, providing project performance insights, readiness oversight, lessons learned, corrective action follow-up, and guidance for nuclear and other high-profile projects.
  • Communicate project performance trends, best practices, and key operational insights to project teams and leadership.
  • Foster collaboration among Project Managers, Branch Managers, Operations, Fleet, Logistics, IT, Engineering, Fabrication, and Senior Leadership teams.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, safety, accountability, and servant leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Project Management, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of project management, operations, construction, industrial services, or related leadership experience.
  • Experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with project controls, budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and performance reporting.
  • Nuclear project experience is preferred but not required.
