We’re building a cloud for the Metaverse here at Roblox. Our engineers use this cloud to build Roblox itself. Like a public cloud, our private cloud provides Database services to engineers at Roblox. What sets our cloud apart from others, is that the Databases cater to the unique needs of the Metaverse. As the Director of Product - Databases, you’ll oversee the strategy and execution of our private cloud database product portfolio.
Our database team provides a variety of data management products for use by our internal engineering teams. This includes products for transaction processing, analytics, caching, queueing, object storage, stream processing, vectors, and a variety of other use cases. While the technologies are familiar, we have unique challenges at Roblox. We operate at a massive scale, supporting more than 70 million daily active users and growing rapidly. Data and its management represent a substantial financial investment for roblox making decisions about how they work deeply impactful to our business. And the metaverse is distributed; we operate across dozens of datacenter locations (across on-prem and cloud) adding a layer of complexity to every storage system.

You will:
- Set the vision and strategy for the database products that Roblox engineers use to build Roblox
- Build Database products for Roblox, combining the best commercial, open source, and bespoke technologies to serve the unique needs of the Metaverse
- Be the champion and evangelist for our unique approach to private cloud within and outside the company
- Report to the head of infrastructure product management
You have:
- At least 12 years of product management experience with at least 5 years delivering database / data management products
- Experience building data platforms at scale, as a database vendor, a cloud provider, or at internal data platform teams in large SaaS organizations
- Experience managing large, technically complex engineering programs that may take years to execute
- Deep familiarity with modern database technologies, but with enough curiosity to wonder what’s the next big invention that should be added to that list.
For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.
Annual Salary Range
$368,230—$422,210 USD
Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
