Generate Capital is seeking a Director of Portfolio Finance. The Portfolio Finance team is responsible for the daily execution and tranching of projects into tax equity and debt facilities. The new Director will serve as the operational project finance leader for Generate’s distributed generation portfolio, initially focused primarily on the Community Solar program.

You will support origination and diligence of project financing facilities, own post-origination financing milestone execution across construction debt, permanent debt, tax equity, and incentive monetization; own financing models, forecasts, and KPIs prior to handoff into operations; and partner across Investments, Project Delivery, Technical and Commercial Asset Management, and Finance (Structured Finance, Treasury, FP&A, Accounting) to improve capital efficiency, investment returns, and cash generation.

This function has strong execution and needs a leader to see the pattern across funds and counterparties in addition to the next close. The portfolio finance function is not merely a financing execution force – this team is also the commercial arm of asset management for many pre-operational decisions.

You will lead a team, including a Manager with Analyst and Associate resources. In partnership with the Structured Finance team, you will help to maintain tax equity and debt relationships, and lead the structuring, sizing, and the models behind all three.

The role is ideal for an experienced senior manager ready to step up and offers the potential to grow with the portfolio as Generate expands its power platform.

What you will be doing at Generate Capital as the Director, Portfolio Finance:

  • Own the debt side of the Community Solar portfolio end to end: lead construction and permanent financing milestone execution with our bank lenders, own the lender relationships, size facilities, and manage exposure limits, draws, compliance and amendments

  • Lead tax equity execution across active funds in partnership with the Manager who owns it: annual capital commitments, MC/interim/SC tranche fundings, ITC monetization and insurance, support term sheet and definitive document negotiations and the diligence for each new fund

  • Own portfolio financial forecasts and models across assets, debt, and tax equity; establish and maintain consistent assumptions, definitions, controls, and update cadences for cash and GAAP reporting

  • Direct transaction and financing supporting workstreams: diligence, data rooms, independent engineer and third-party deliverables, title and real estate reconciliations, regulatory filings and approvals, and closing execution

  • Maintain a live feedback loop with Investments and Structured Finance so that pricing assumptions, transaction costs, and financing structures for new opportunities are based on portfolio experience

  • Partner with Finance (Structured Finance, Treasury, FP&A, Accounting) on cash movements, reconciliations, liquidity planning, incentive accruals, and aligned portfolio definitions, including EBITDA and cash available for distribution

  • Establish functional KPIs, data-quality standards and reporting to track financing progress, incentive monetization, program and portfolio returns, capital recycling, and performance against company targets

  • Deliver against the function’s KPIs, e.g. tax equity funded within 30 days of mechanical completion, within 60 days of substantial completion, and construction financing closed within 60 days of notice to proceed

  • Institutionalize what is currently informal: document processes and decision rights of a function that grew organically and design the function for scale; accountable for whether the processes hold up under volume, not for executing any single checklist

  • Institutionalize clean handoffs from Project Delivery to Asset Management at key project milestones, ensuring that financial, operational, and contractual requirements are reflected in portfolio forecasts and execution plans

  • Lead and develop the team, including succession for the roles the function currently depends on and reducing reliance on contract resources

  • Own escalation: when a project, fund or counterparty pre-COD issue spans Investments, Project Delivery, Technical and Commercial Asset Management and Finance, you are the person who frames the risk and drives the issue to a decision, rather than the person who asks who is driving it

Candidate qualifications & core characteristics:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience across structured finance, project finance, portfolio finance, financial asset management, or adjacent disciplines; renewable energy or sustainable infrastructure experience strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of community solar programs and requirements is a major plus

  • Hands-on and advanced financial modeling capability across infrastructure assets, tax equity, and debt instruments, with a strong understanding of both cash and GAAP outcomes. You may be building and maintaining models, not just reviewing them

  • Direct experience with construction-to-permanent bank debt: sizing, draw administration, exposure management, and the closing mechanics, and conditions precedent to funding such as: title, survey, ALTA, environmental, lien waivers, consents

  • Demonstrated transaction leadership, including diligence, data room management, multi-party coordination, closing execution, and ongoing facility administration, at volume

  • Experience establishing governance, controls, and KPI definitions across a complex portfolio

  • Judgement to translate financial insights into operational priorities and business decisions and ability to maintain own’s and team’s focused execution of priorities

  • Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills, with the judgment to align diverse stakeholders and drive execution in a fast-moving environment; comfortable delivering bad news early with a plan attached

  • Cross-functional authority without formal reporting lines: the credibility to negotiate responsibilities with peers, and the presence to bring risks, recommendations and decisions to a senior forum without being asked for them

  • A track record of developing people and of building bench strength to handle high volume consistently and at speed, rather than becoming the bench

  • High proficiency in Excel and comfort working with enterprise systems, dashboards, and data teams to improve information quality and reporting. Existing knowledge and daily use of AI tools is a major plus

  • High integrity, intellectual agility, and a roll-up-your-sleeves approach consistent with Generate's values

Generate's compensation packages are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Salary decisions take into account a wide variety of factors including, but not limited to: skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, geographic location, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is $190,000 - $220,000. In addition, the compensation package may include a discretionary bonus and other benefits, including health care benefits, retirement benefits, benefits permitting paid days off (including sick leave, parental leave, and paid time off or vacation benefits), and other benefits that must be reported for federal tax purposes. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of this range.
