POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Operations is responsible for leading and optimizing all operational functions within Mortgage Investors Group. The executive-level position oversees loan fulfillment activities from application through funding and post-closing, ensuring operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, profitability and achievement of corporate objectives. The Director of Operations partner closely with Sales, Secondary/Capital Markets, Compliance, Risk Management, Quality Control and Executive Leadership to deliver best-in-class mortgage operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operational Leadership: Direct and manage loan fulfillment and operational functions including:
- Processing
- Closing
- Funding
- Post Closing (audit, shipping, insurance, purchase, final docs)
- Reception Desk
- Develop/maintain operational strategies that support company growth, profitability, and customer (internal/external) service objectives
- Monitor workflow, productivity, quality and capacity across all operational departments
- Establish operational metrics and service-level agreements (SLA)
- Ensure efficient resource allocation and scalable processes
Performance Management: Create and monitor key performance indicators including:
- Cycle times
- Pull-through
- Turn times
- Defect rates
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Partner with Compliance and Quality Control teams to address audit findings and operational risk
- Maintain operational readiness for regulatory examinations and investor reviews
Financial Management:
- Manage departmental budgets and staffing plans
- Monitor operational expenses and cost-per-loan metrics
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining loan quality
- Support profitability initiatives through workflow automation and process optimization
Technology and Process Improvements
- Lead enhancements of:
- Loan Origination System (LOS)
- Workflow Technologies
- Document management systems
- Automation solutions
- Collaborate with IT and business leaders to improve technology adoption
- Drive digital mortgage initiatives and operational innovation
Leadership and Talent Development:
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing operational leaders
- Provide coaching, training and professional development opportunities
- Foster culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and succession planning
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Serve as a strategic partner to Sales, Credit, Capital Markets, Finance and Executive Leadership
- Participate in executive leadership meetings and strategic planning initiatives
- Support implementation of new products, programs, and investor requirements
Requirements
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Management, or related field
Experience:
- 10 + years of secondary market mortgage operations experience
- 5 + years of senior leadership experience managing multiple mortgage fulfillment functions
- Experience within an Independent Mortgage Banker (IMB) Environment preferred
- Strong knowledge of agency, government, HFA, and non-QM lending programs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of residential mortgage lending operations, including a thorough understanding of practices, theories, and policies involved
- Expertise in agency and government guidelines
- Strong understanding of warehouse lending and secondary market requirements
- Superior leadership, team development, and diplomacy skills
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Superior communication and presentation skills
- Advanced proficiency with mortgage LOS platforms, and reporting tools
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to navigate throughout the building. Must be able to hear and communicate well. Must have good eye-hand coordination and finger movement for use in computer software programs.
