The Position
The Director of Professional Associations Strategy in Medical Affairs will be responsible for Developing a deep understanding of the mission and goals of prioritized US based medical societies. Alignment with therapeutic areas to develop and/or expand innovative strategic engagement plans for key medical societies to increase disease awareness, improve screening and diagnosis, and/or informing updates to clinical care guidelines for patients with serious chronic diseases. Serve as medical society engagement liaison for US based medical societies. Engage medical society leadership to identify partnership opportunities, congress engagement activities, participation in corporate roundtables/boards, etc.
This role will require effective collaboration and coordination across many internal teams, including but not limited to, aligned therapy areas, public affairs, and legal/compliance.
Relationship
Reports to Executive Director - Medical Modernization & Strategic Partnership Engagement.
Serve as the primary medical affairs point for interfacing with professional medical/nursing/pharmacy societies.
Work closely with each Therapeutic Area (TA) to identify priority professional associations then create and execute engagement plans aligned to medical strategy.
Interacts proactively and extensively with teams across Novo Nordisk, such as Core Medical Team, Public Affairs and Global Medical Affairs.
Essential Functions
- Appropriate identification and prioritization of priority professional associations relative to Novo Nordisk strategic area of interest
- Development of strategic medical professional association engagement plans for priority associations that aligns with therapeutic area strategic imperatives
- Executes engagement plans in collaboration with therapy areas delivering on key activities and partnership opportunities
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and stakeholder management skills required to build and maintain relationships with functions ranging from executive management to subject matter experts
Physical Requirements
A minimum of 20% overnight travel.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree from an accredited college or university required (e.g. MBA, MA or Pharm D)
- Minimum 10 years progressive experience in pharmaceutical industry preferred
- Experience in Medical Affairs is preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of healthcare delivery, healthcare systems, and public policy is required to understand and plan for the future needs
- Proven experience in strategic planning and engagement with professional associations within the healthcare industry
- Prior experience influencing effectively in a matrixed, global environment is ideal
- Prior experience in synthesizing complex information into concise, effective deliverables
- Ability to balance both long and short-term projects with the ability to work under pressure, prioritize and deliver multiple complex projects simultaneously under tight timelines
