SUMMARY:

The Director of Marketing Operations will own how marketing runs at Placer.ai: the systems, the data, the lead lifecycle, and the reporting that marketing and revenue leadership use to make decisions. This role reports to the VP of Revenue Operations and works in direct support of marketing leadership.

This person sets the direction and owns the architecture. The Marketing Operations Manager reporting to this role owns the day-to-day build work in HubSpot, Salesforce, and Chili Piper, so this is not the person configuring every workflow. It is the person who decides what gets built, reviews the work, unblocks the team, and makes the call on what we buy, keep, or retire.

Marketing Operations at Placer.ai sits inside Revenue Operations, and partners with Sales Operations, Customer Success Operations, Deal Desk, and Business Operations. The funnel is managed as one system, which means this role is accountable for definitions and data that marketing and sales both rely on, not only for marketing's own reporting.

This person will be the operational voice in marketing planning conversations, and will need to say clearly when a plan will not work as designed, early enough for it to matter.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own the marketing operations roadmap: what gets fixed, what gets built, and in what order, sequenced against marketing and revenue goals rather than against inbound request volume.
  • Own marketing systems architecture and the integrity of data moving between HubSpot and Salesforce. This includes the object and field model, sync behavior, enrichment, deduplication, and account and contact matching. Where marketing and sales reporting disagree, this role is accountable for finding out why and resolving it with Sales Operations.
  • Own the lead lifecycle end to end: stage definitions, qualification criteria, scoring thresholds, routing logic, service levels, and the handoff into sales. Get marketing and sales to agree on those definitions and then hold the line on them, including when a quarter is going badly and the definitions come under pressure.
  • Own campaign operations and attribution. Build the measurement so that campaign performance can be defended in an executive review, and be explicit about what the model can and cannot claim about influence.
  • Own funnel and conversion reporting as the single source of truth for marketing performance. Deliver a recommendation with the numbers rather than a dashboard and a shrug.
  • Own marketing technology strategy, including build-versus-buy decisions, vendor evaluations, renewals, consolidation, and the cost of the stack. Bring a recommendation with the trade-offs stated, not a vendor comparison grid.
  • Own governance for marketing systems: who can change what, how changes get tested before they ship, and how they get documented. This role writes the requirements rather than describing the problem and waiting for someone else to spec it.
  • Own marketing data compliance in practice, including consent capture, suppression, and unsubscribe handling, working with Legal where a position needs to be set.
  • Manage, coach, and grow the team, and hire and lead the additions to the team as it expands. Set priorities so the team is working on the highest-value problems rather than absorbing every request that arrives.
  • Partner with Enablement and Sales Operations so that changes to routing, lifecycle, or definitions reach the field with the context they need, rather than landing as a surprise.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be credible in the systems without being the primary builder. This role needs someone who can open HubSpot or Salesforce, inspect the configuration, and form an independent judgment about whether the work is right, while spending most of their time on strategy, architecture, and prioritization. Candidates who have only operated at the strategy layer, and candidates who want to spend their days building workflows, are both a poor fit.
  • 7+ years in marketing operations, revenue operations, or a closely related function, including at least 2 years managing people.
  • Deep hands-on experience with a marketing automation platform and a CRM, ideally HubSpot and Salesforce, including ownership of the integration between them.
  • Experience with lead routing and meeting-scheduling tooling such as Chili Piper, and a clear point of view on what good routing and good speed-to-lead look like.
  • Has designed a lead lifecycle and qualification model from a messy starting point and driven agreement on it across marketing and sales. Candidates should be able to describe the disagreements they had to resolve, not only the model they landed on.
  • Analytically strong and comfortable owning data quality, including field and object design, definitional integrity, and reconciliation across conflicting sources.
  • Strong command of the marketing funnel and the metrics at each stage, with the ability to present to and defend a position with a CMO or CRO, including a position leadership does not want to hear.
  • Has owned vendor evaluations and renewals end to end, including negotiation and the decision to walk away.
  • Genuinely fluent with AI tooling, using it to build and analyze at volume and to specify workflows, not only to consume output.
  • Clear written communication. This role documents decisions and writes requirements as a matter of course.
  • SQL, or comfort working directly with a data warehouse and a BI tool, is strongly preferred.
  • Website operations experience, including content management systems, forms, tracking, and partnering with a web developer, is a plus given the expected team growth.
  • B2B SaaS experience, ideally in an organization where marketing operations sits inside a central Revenue Operations team.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

HOW SUCCESS IS MEASURED:

  • Speed-to-lead and routing accuracy against agreed service levels.
  • Lead lifecycle definitions applied consistently, with marketing and sales reporting reconciling to the same numbers.
  • Data quality in the marketing database, measured by duplicate rate, match rate, and completeness on the fields that drive routing and scoring.
  • Funnel reporting delivered on time and trusted by marketing, sales, and finance leadership.
  • Roadmap delivery against committed sequence, and the share of team capacity spent on planned work rather than unplanned requests.
  • Stack cost and tool count relative to what the stack is actually used for.
  • Attribution reporting adopted in marketing planning decisions, not only in retrospective reporting.
  • Growth and retention of the team, and the Marketing Operations Manager's progression.

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Demonstrated use of AI tools to work more efficiently—whether professionally or personally—and a curiosity for finding new ways to apply them.
  • Comfort integrating generative AI into day-to-day workflows to boost productivity, quality, and output.
