Position: Director of Marketing & Communications
Reports To: Chief Development Officer or Delegate
General Purpose
The Director of Marketing & Communications leads the organization's marketing, communications, public relations, and brand management efforts. As the steward of the BGCSM brand, this position increases awareness, strengthens community engagement, and advances the organization's reputation through strategic communications, storytelling, and marketing initiatives that support mission impact and organizational growth.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations strategy aligned with organizational priorities and growth objectives.
- Serve as the organization's brand steward, ensuring consistency in messaging, visual identity, storytelling, and public positioning.
- Partner with executive leadership to strengthen organizational visibility, reputation, and stakeholder engagement.
- Establish measurable goals, key performance indicators, and reporting mechanisms to evaluate marketing and communications effectiveness.
- Provide leadership and oversight for marketing initiatives supporting fundraising, program growth, advocacy efforts, and organizational awareness.
- Supervise and develop marketing and communications staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers as assigned.
Communications
- Develop and manage organizational messaging, key talking points, and communication frameworks.
- Lead the creation of compelling content that communicates the organization's mission, impact, strategic priorities, and community stories.
- Oversee internal and external communications, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with organizational values.
- Develop communication standards and resources that support consistent messaging across departments and Club locations.
- Author and review executive communications, organizational announcements, annual reports, presentations, and stakeholder communications.
- Support crisis communications planning and execution as needed.
Marketing & Brand Management
- Develop and execute annual marketing plans that support organizational objectives and maximize return on investment.
- Lead integrated marketing campaigns across digital, print, email, social media, events, and community engagement channels.
- Manage website strategy, content, and performance metrics.
- Oversee social media strategy and digital engagement efforts.
- Analyze campaign performance and audience data to inform strategic decisions and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Resource Development staff to support donor acquisition, stewardship, sponsorship activation, and fundraising campaigns.
- Manage the marketing and communications budget and assist with annual departmental planning.
Public Relations & Community Engagement
- Develop and execute public relations strategies that elevate organizational awareness and credibility.
- Serve as a primary organizational spokesperson and brand ambassador when appropriate.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets, community leaders, partners, and influencers.
- Prepare executives, board members, and designated spokespeople for public appearances and media opportunities.
- Identify and secure opportunities for community visibility, thought leadership, and public engagement.
- Represent BGCSM at community meetings, events, committees, and strategic partnerships.
Creative Services & Brand Assets
- Oversee the development of all marketing and communication materials, ensuring alignment with brand standards.
- Direct the creation of print and digital collateral, annual reports, presentations, fundraising materials, social media assets, and promotional campaigns.
- Support grant proposals, sponsorship materials, donor communications, and impact reporting through compelling design and storytelling.
- Provide guidance and resources to Club and departmental teams to ensure consistent brand execution throughout the organization.
Board & Volunteer Engagement
- Support the Marketing Committee and related board committees as assigned.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and materials for board meetings and strategic planning discussions.
- Partner with board members and volunteers to expand community awareness and advocacy efforts.
- Attend board meetings, retreats, and committee meetings as required.
Funder & Stakeholder Communications
- Partner with Resource Development and program leadership to develop compelling donor, grant, and impact communications.
- Support organizational storytelling efforts through impact reports, case studies, donor communications, and stewardship materials.
- Ensure communications effectively demonstrate organizational outcomes, community impact, and strategic priorities.
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals and department objectives.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field preferred.
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, public relations, brand management, or a related field required.
- Experience leading organization-wide marketing and communications strategies required.
- Experience developing and executing multi-channel marketing campaigns and public relations initiatives required.
- Experience supervising staff, contractors, volunteers, or creative teams preferred.
- Graphic design experience strongly preferred, including experience creating digital and print marketing materials, presentations, social media graphics, and promotional collateral.
- Experience with Canva required.
- Experience with website management, email marketing platforms, social media management, analytics, and content management systems preferred.
- Experience in nonprofit, youth-serving, education, or community-based organizations preferred.
