Help Shape the Future of Internal Audit at Charter Manufacturing

At Charter Manufacturing, we're looking for a forward-thinking Director, Internal Audit to lead the evolution of our enterprise-wide audit function. This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional audit practices and bring a fresh perspective to how technology, automation, data analytics, and emerging AI capabilities can strengthen internal controls, improve risk management, and deliver meaningful business value.

Reporting directly to our Chief Financial Officer, you'll have the opportunity to shape our internal audit strategy, influence enterprise risk management, and partner closely with executive leadership and the Audit Committee. You'll provide leadership and direction to the internal audit function, leverage internal and external expertise, and work across our manufacturing businesses to identify risks, strengthen processes, and help leaders make informed decisions. We're looking for someone who combines strong audit and controls knowledge with strategic thinking, technological curiosity, and the ability to build trusted relationships. For the right leader, this is an opportunity to make a lasting enterprise-wide impact while gaining exposure to broader business initiatives and future leadership opportunities.

What You'll Do

Lead the Strategy and Evolution of Internal Audit

  • Develop and execute Charter's enterprise internal audit strategy, methodology, and multi-year risk-based audit plan.
  • Establish and continuously improve audit programs, standards, documentation, issue ratings, and reporting practices.
  • Lead the planning, execution, reporting, and follow-up of audits across financial, asset-protection, technology, operational, and other enterprise risk areas.
  • Develop audit programs that evaluate whether internal controls are appropriately designed, implemented, and operating effectively to mitigate business risk.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage automation, advanced analytics, AI-enabled capabilities, and technology to modernize audit processes and improve the effectiveness of risk monitoring.
  • Guide the evaluation of emerging risks and support risk assessments associated with strategic business initiatives, including acquisitions and post-acquisition integration.

Strengthen Controls and Drive Business Value

  • Evaluate financial, asset-protection, technology, and business-process controls to identify risks, control gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and advance continuous control monitoring practices, including automated exception identification, escalation, and remediation tracking.
  • Provide practical, risk-based recommendations that strengthen internal controls, process ownership, documentation, and accountability.
  • Partner with business and functional leaders to monitor audit action plans and drive timely remediation.
  • Serve as a consultative resource on broader compliance and control matters, including targeted risk assessments, audits, and monitoring recommendations, while maintaining management's accountability for control ownership and compliance.
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness, continuous improvement, and effective control practices across the organization.

Partner with Executive Leadership and the Audit Committee

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO, executive leadership, and Audit Committee, providing independent, objective assurance and insights into enterprise risks and control effectiveness.
  • Lead preparation of quarterly Audit Committee meetings, including audit reporting, presentations, meeting materials, and coordination with the Committee Chair.
  • Meet independently with the Audit Committee Chair to discuss audit priorities, findings, emerging risks, and remediation progress.
  • Communicate audit findings and recommendations in a clear, business-focused manner that supports informed decisions and organizational accountability.
  • Build strong partnerships across Charter's businesses and functions while maintaining the independence and objectivity of the internal audit function.

Lead Talent and Build Organizational Capability

  • Provide leadership, strategic direction, and oversight of internal audit resources, ensuring effective execution of audit priorities and initiatives.
  • Coach and develop talent while creating meaningful development opportunities for audit, finance, intern, and rotational professionals.
  • Strengthen organizational capabilities in audit methodology, technology-enabled auditing, business acumen, executive communication, and stakeholder management.
  • Coordinate and oversee external audit and advisory partners, including specialized resources supporting audit, risk assessment, and investigative activities.
  • Foster a collaborative, consultative approach that builds trust, strengthens accountability, and helps business leaders recognize the value of effective risk management.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Ten plus years of experience in internal audit, external audit, financial controls, risk management, or related finance leadership roles.
