The Director, Human Resources - Client Services directs the day-to-day operations of the HR Client Services function, including the delivery of client-based services, administration, coordination, and evaluation of HR programs at the University of Miami The Director, Human Resources - Client Services provides consultation to management on strategic staffing plans, compensation, benefits, training and development and ensures adherence with all employment legislation and regulations.
Core Job Functions:
Oversees the effective utilization of the employee workforce, while supporting employee workforce planning, strategies, and initiatives. Assists clients with evaluating their business plans and the impact of existing and new discipline-specific programs/strategies and/or regulatory actions and direct formulation of the department objectives.
Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and governmental requirements. Maintains knowledge of industry trends, state/federal employment legislation, as well as day-to-day management of employees, and reducing legal risks.
Establishes and maintains positive, productive, and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners to support an engaged and inclusive culture that advances the University of Miami’s mission, vision, strategic objectives, and business goals.
Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues and conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations. Exercises due diligence in the review and research of evidence/documents to analyze the overall facts of the case and ensure HR staff recommendations for action are appropriate. Counsels and advises employees and managers on employee relations practices.
Initiates, develops, and executes Work Environment Assessments. Conducts recurring meetings and site visits with respective business units and the general employee population to gauge the work environment.
Provides day-to-day guidance to direct staff or clients regarding the coaching, counseling, career development, and disciplinary actions for staff.
Reviews and makes recommendations to executive management for improvement of policies, procedures, and practices related to personnel matters. Manages communication of changes in policies and procedures and ensures adherence. Fosters an engaged employee environment through consistency and uniformity in the application and interpretation of governing policies, practices, and all terms and conditions of employment.
Develops reporting procedures and other methods to establish accountability and measure success. Monitors client metrics (i.e., vacancy, turnover rates, etc.) regularly.
Assists with the revision of processes and procedures to reflect progressive approaches to human resources management and to improve HR effectiveness.
Identifies training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs. Facilitates training, including orientation, as needed. Participates in the evaluation and monitoring of training to determine the success of training programs and that training objectives are met.
Completes special projects or assignments as required, including serving on committees and participating in HR-related meetings and events.
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
