About Nature Research Assistant
Nature Research Assistant is a new digital product designed to transform how researchers interact with scientific knowledge, leveraging cutting-edge technology to support discovery, synthesis, and collaboration.
As we scale this product, we are seeking a senior leader to design, drive, and own the go-to-market (GTM) strategy and execution. This role will be critical to unlocking growth across freemium, B2C, and B2B institutional channels, establishing Nature Research Assistant as an indispensable tool for researchers worldwide.
About the role
We are hiring a Director of Growth (Nature Research Assistant) — a dynamic, entrepreneurial leader who will drive growth. You will define the GTM strategy, lead tactical execution, and ensure measurable traction across user and customer acquisition, engagement, conversion, and retention.
Working closely with the Director, Researcher Workflow Solutions and reporting into the VP, Marketing Strategy, you will harness Springer Nature’s matrix structure and existing commercial channels, while also driving innovative, growth-oriented approaches.
This role is offered on a permanent basis in our London office on a hybrid working model.
Role Responsibilities:
GTM Leadership
- Define, own, and continuously refine the GTM strategy for Nature Research Assistant across freemium, B2C, and institutional B2B segments.
- Gather and commission insights into evolving segment and user needs to inform GTM and product priorities
- Develop clear success metrics (adoption, engagement, revenue growth, market penetration) and report progress at the executive level.
Execution & Growth
- Design and deliver tactical marketing and growth plans, balancing rapid experimentation with scalable, data-driven execution.
- Lead acquisition and conversion strategies for freemium users, building pathways into paid B2C and institutional B2B adoption.
- Collaborate with institutional sales to ensure alignment of GTM plans with Springer Nature’s global sales network.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Product on product positioning, pricing, roadmap priorities, and market fit.
- Work across Springer Nature’s matrix structure, leveraging existing marketing, communications, and sales teams to maximize impact.
- Act as the bridge between product, marketing, and sales to ensure a coherent, customer-centric approach.
Entrepreneurial Drive
- Identify and pursue growth opportunities, including partnerships, new channels, and innovative engagement models.
- Bring a test-and-learn mindset, rapidly iterating on campaigns and strategies to accelerate product-market fit.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
- Proven track record in GTM leadership, growth strategy, or marketing leadership roles in a digital product, SaaS, or innovation-driven context.
- Background in scaling products from early adoption to mass-market success, ideally in B2C and B2B2C or institutional markets.
- Familiarity with digital marketing techniques including personalisation and automation.
- Strategic thinker with operational execution excellence.
- Entrepreneurial mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, bias toward action, and appetite for innovation.
- Strong leadership and influence skills to operate effectively in a global matrix structure.
- Analytical and data-driven, with a focus on metrics-based decision-making.
- Excellent communicator and storyteller, able to inspire both internal stakeholders and external audiences.
Desirable
- Experience in publishing, edtech, or research-related industries is desirable but not required.
Why Join Us?
- Shape the GTM success of one of Springer Nature’s most ambitious digital product innovations.
- Operate at the intersection of start-up agility and global scale.
- Collaborate with world-class colleagues passionate about advancing research and discovery.
- Enjoy a role with high visibility, accountability, and opportunity for impact.
