What does a Director of Major Gifts and Capital Campaign do?

  • Serve as the Association's subject matter expert by providing strategic fundraising, major gifts, and capital campaigns and support to association leadership, branch management, and volunteers
  • Lead the planning, execution, coordination, and evaluation of Association-wide fundraising initiatives, including capital campaigns, major gifts, and planned giving
  • Develop and implement measurable major gifts, capital campaign and planned giving fundraising strategies, campaign readiness plans, prospect management system(s), and stewardship initiatives that support organizational goals
  • Develop, cultivate and steward relationships with individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies, focusing on leadership and major gifts of $10,000 or more
  • Work alongside the President & CEO, branch leaders, and volunteers to identify philanthropic opportunities, build stronger donor relationships, and create unified solicitation strategies that lead to an increase in major gift donations annually
  • Support branch leadership in the planning coordination and execution of branch capital campaign projects aligning with the association wide comprehensive campaign
  • Oversee prospect research, major gift donor portfolio development and management, donor engagement activities, campaign reporting, and stewardship efforts to ensure measurable progress toward documented fundraising goals
  • Collaborate with and provide guidance to the Association Development Administrator and provide leadership for grant development, donor database management, reporting, planned giving initiatives, and departmental operations while promoting a culture of philanthropy throughout the Association
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications Department to develop compelling fundraising materials, donor proposals, campaign collateral, annual impact reports, and other communications supporting philanthropic initiatives
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, corporate partners, foundations, and civic leaders to strengthen the YMCA's philanthropic presence and expand funding opportunities
  • Prepare and present fundraising reports, campaign updates, donor metrics, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership, Association committees, and the Board of Directors
  • Develop, monitor, and administer the department budget while ensuring compliance with Association policies, grant requirements, donor intent, and philanthropic best practices
  • Maintain development policies, procedures, and operational standards while providing training, coaching, and technical support to staff, volunteers, and branch leadership engaged in fundraising activities

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 2+ years’ previous work-related experience preferred
  • Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire
  • Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire
  • Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance
  • Maintain a valid California driver’s license, active participation in the California DMV Pull Program, an acceptable driving record and approval status as determined by the Channel Islands YMCA and/or its insurance carrier

Skills Required
