The Role:

The Director of FP&A & Accounting role will be an integral member of the Finance Team at Sail Biomedicines and will be a closely integrated strategic and operational partner with the VP of Finance. This role will be responsible for providing strong financial management and budget process development and management for the company while also serving as a critical thought partner to the VP of Finance on both strategic and tactical financial decision-making and execution. They will also bring strong transactional experience in Financial Planning and Analysis. This individual will focus on providing business/financial planning, reporting and analysis as well as business partnering with other functions as a leader and manager within the Finance function. This role provides both strategic guidance and also requires a hands-on approach to day-to-day work to provide value as the company continues to evolve.This is a hybrid role, onsite time will be adjusted to reflect the needs of both the organization and the team, fostering collaboration while allowing for flexible remote work.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, execute and report financial activities, including annual budgets, long-range planning with financial controls, procedures, accuracy and reliability.
  • Partner with functional and departmental leaders on team financials, cash analysis, R&D program/platform level reporting, and quarterly Board of Directors and Audit committee packages.
  • Provide proactive monitoring of risks and opportunities.
  • Maintain and enhance a cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
  • Lead all Financial Planning and Analysis work and foster an environment and culture of continuous improvement with driving efficient process change and analytics fit for use for the business.
  • Be a partner in forecasting future operations cost and budgeting.
  • Assist with specific projects and initiatives unique to a fast-growing biotechnology start-up, such as system implementations and updates and business process improvements.
  • Ad-hoc reporting and analysis including assistance with 409a valuations as needed.
  • Support Finance/Accounting team with preparation and completion of annual Auditing as well as ad hoc items.

Qualifications: 

  • Masters degree or MBA in Finance or Accounting or relevant discipline is preferred.
  • Typically requires 6+ years experience in leading FP&A operations and strategy with minimum of 2+ years in a publicly traded company in the biotechnology or life sciences industry.
  • Financial, analytic, and strategic planning experience.
  • Experience leading the short-term and long-term financial planning process.
  • Experience coordinating with external vendors on an as needed basis.
  • Demonstrated budgeting, costing, estimating, and reporting experience.
  • Highly organized, analytical, ethical, clear communicator with a strong eye for details.
  • Proficient in Adaptive Planning
  • Accounting experience is strongly preferred.
