Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Engineering to lead the overall engineering strategy, execution, and operational ownership of a key product area within our platform portfolio. This role is responsible for driving product delivery, architecture, operational excellence, AI adoption, customer engagement, and team growth across the full software development lifecycle.

The ideal candidate is a strong technical and organizational leader with prior experience leading engineering teams supporting enterprise B2B SaaS platforms across multiple technical domains including cloud-native architectures, Generative AI, full-stack application development, operational support, and analytics.

This is a highly visible leadership role that combines technical strategy, people leadership, customer engagement, and operational ownership to help scale and evolve a critical SaaS product platform.


Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership & Product Ownership

  • Lead the end-to-end engineering ownership of a product area, including development, architecture, operational support, scalability, and ongoing platform modernization.
  • Drive execution across engineering initiatives, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure solutions.
  • Partner closely with Product Management and business stakeholders to define roadmaps, priorities, timelines, and delivery plans.
  • Own engineering capacity planning, resource management, delivery execution, and operational readiness.

Technical Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and drive the technical strategy and architecture roadmap for the platform, ensuring scalability, maintainability, resiliency, and performance.
  • Collaborate with architects and technical leaders across product areas to align on engineering standards, best practices, and shared platform capabilities.
  • Ensure adherence to security and compliance standards, including secure development practices and industry best practices (e.g., OWASP).

AI Adoption & Innovation

  • Lead the adoption and incorporation of AI-enabled engineering practices across the SDLC, including developer productivity tooling, automation, testing, and operational intelligence.
  • Partner with product and innovation teams to evaluate and implement AI-driven product capabilities leveraging Generative AI and machine learning technologies.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous improvement within the engineering organization.

Operational Excellence & Support

  • Oversee operational support processes, production stability, incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous service improvement.
  • Ensure proper observability, monitoring, performance optimization, and operational governance across the platform.
  • Drive automation and efficiency initiatives across engineering and support workflows.

Team Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Build, lead, mentor, and grow high-performing engineering teams across development, QA, DevOps, and support functions.
  • Establish strong engineering processes, accountability, and a culture of collaboration, ownership, and technical excellence.
  • Support hiring, career development, succession planning, and organizational scaling initiatives.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a senior engineering leader in customer-facing discussions involving technical strategy, escalations, roadmap alignment, integrations, and platform capabilities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery and operational outcomes for customers.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience leading engineering teams supporting enterprise SaaS or B2B platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience managing engineering organizations, including development, operational support, and technical delivery.
  • Strong experience with modern cloud-native architectures and AWS technologies such as:
    • AWS AppSync
    • Bedrock
    • DynamoDB
    • Glue
    • Lambda
    • OpenSearch
    • and related cloud services
  • Strong understanding of full-stack web application development using technologies such as ReactJS and Typescript.
  • Experience leading technical architecture discussions and driving modernization initiatives.
  • Experience incorporating AI technologies and AI-enabled engineering practices into software delivery processes.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC best practices, Agile methodologies, CI/CD, automation, and operational support models.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to independently drive strategic and operational outcomes.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting scientific content, healthcare, life sciences, or highly regulated SaaS platforms.
  • Experience building integrations with external platforms such as CRMs, content management systems, and third-party APIs.
  • Experience deploying AI-integrated systems leveraging Generative AI and machine learning capabilities.
  • Experience with cloud cost optimization, operational governance, and platform scalability initiatives.
  • Experience leading geographically distributed engineering teams.
  • Experience building and maintaining automated testing frameworks and quality engineering practices.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

This position is fully remote (U.S. only), with limited travel that may be required for occasional team meetings, training sessions, or business events. Work is performed primarily in a home-office environment using standard office equipment such as a computer, keyboard, mouse, and phone. Employees are expected to maintain a safe, ergonomic, and confidential workspace with reliable high-speed internet access suitable for professional remote work.

The role generally requires extended periods of sitting, viewing a computer screen, and communicating through written and verbal means. Occasional light physical activity (e.g., lifting materials or equipment up to 20 pounds) may be necessary.
