Director of Engineering – JLLWhat this job involves:

We are seeking an experienced and highly strategic professional to lead engineering and construction activities across our national real estate investment and development portfolio. This role is instrumental in bridging investment strategy with technical execution supporting the full asset lifecycle from underwriting through development, active management, and disposition. You will bring deep expertise in construction, design coordination, project execution, environmental risk mitigation, and sustainability while collaborating across departments and with external partners to ensure projects are executed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards of quality. This position plays a critical consulting role across the organization, providing technical expertise to support acquisition, development, management, and disposition decisions.

What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Advise on underwriting and due diligence of prospective development projects, analyzing design, constructability, scheduling, and cost implications
  • Oversee planning and execution of large capital projects, ensuring delivery on time, on budget, and within quality expectations
  • Coordinate engineering and environmental due diligence for property acquisitions and dispositions
  • Consult with legal counsel and state agencies on environmental and engineering issues affecting properties
  • Support asset managers with technical expertise, capital improvement plans, and expenditure forecasting
  • Evaluate construction and operational risks, supporting insurance renewals and developing mitigation strategies
  • Champion sustainability initiatives that improve efficiency, reduce resource usage, and enhance GRESB reporting outcomes
Required Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in real estate development, engineering, or construction management
  • Strong command of project budgeting, scheduling, construction contracts, and value engineering
  • Deep understanding of environmental risk, insurance underwriting, and sustainability practices
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams and external consultants
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Self-starter with ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with institutional-level real estate
  • Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations
  • Familiarity with sustainability and ESG reporting frameworks
  • Experience in consultant and contractor selection processes
  • Strong background in construction documentation review
  • Understanding of building systems and maintenance requirements
  • Experience with capital expenditure planning and forecasting

Estimated compensation for this position:

150,000.00 – 250,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
