Who we are:
At Better Life Partners, we provide what it takes to heal from addiction. Wherever. Whenever.

We work alongside community-based organizations to meet our members where they are, no matter what recovery looks like to them. By combining virtual and in-person counseling, community support, and access to life-saving medication, we help people move beyond addiction to find belonging, love, and purpose.

If you’re looking to roll up your sleeves and meet hard challenges head-on, then we’re looking for you.

The role:
The Director of Engineering will lead the day-to-day execution of BLP’s engineering initiatives—helping build, scale, and modernize the technology platform that powers our operations. This platform is central to clinical workflows, patient experience, reporting, and compliance. You’ll manage and mentor engineers, ensure operational excellence, drive delivery on our product roadmap, and strengthen the technical foundation of our systems. This role is ideal for a strong engineering leader who is hands-on, enjoys building and scaling systems, and thrives in a mission-driven, fast-moving environment. Our team is agile, mission-driven, and focused on leveraging technology to deliver high-quality care at scale. We build tools that allow providers to serve members with dignity, precision, and compassion. You will work closely with product, data, security, and clinical teams to ensure that our technology supports the safe, secure, and scalable delivery of care.

Unless otherwise specified, this position is remote (work from home) with expectation of attending team meetings quarterly. Candidates must reside in one of the following states: Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, or Connecticut.

What you will do:

  • Lead and manage the engineering team responsible for developing and maintaining BLP’s core technology platform (built on the Microsoft stack)
  • Translate product strategy into execution, partnering closely with Product Management to break roadmap goals into delivery plans and sprints
  • Drive technical excellence through structured development practices, code review, CI/CD improvements, and system modernization efforts
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers to build a high-performing, mission-driven team
  • Own platform reliability and incident response, working to minimize downtime and production disruptions
  • Collaborate with the VP Product and Technology to shape technical strategy, architecture, and priorities
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and security of software systems in a healthcare setting (including HIPAA and other applicable regulations)
  • Partner with IT to ensure a secure, scalable, and reliable environment for remote and hybrid teams
  • Serve as an excellent mentor to a small team of engineers
  • Participate hands-on in key technical decisions, design reviews, and where appropriate, code contributions

You are a good fit if you have:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or Engineering
  • Have 8+ years of software engineering experience with the modern Microsoft stack (ASP.NET Core, SQL Server, Azure)
  • Have 4+ years leading engineering teams as a Manager or Director in fast-paced, production startup environments
  • Have experience working in health tech or other regulated industries
  • Have experience evaluating, integrating and managing SaaS vendor platforms
  • Bring strong knowledge of compliance, security, and privacy standards in healthcare technology
  • Are comfortable working at both strategic and tactical levels—leading people, engaging with in-house stakeholders while staying close to the code and delivery
  • Enjoy building collaborative relationships across engineering, product, operations, and clinical teams
  • Thrive in a mission-driven, fast-paced environment with high ambiguity and rapid change

It will also be great if you have:

  • Prior experience writing C# web applications and working with SQL and Entity Framework
  • Experience with applying AI and automation in regulated industries
  • Familiarity with front-end frameworks (JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap)
  • Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with EHR/EMR systems, prescriptions or healthcare claims processing (Revenue Cycle Management)
  • Prior leadership of IT/infra teams in a hybrid environment

Work location requirements:

  • BLP operates in hybrid and remote work environments, which allows us to better meet our members and partners where they’re located. Candidates applying for this role must be willing and able to travel locally within the communities we serve and/or travel to onsite meetings as expected in coordination with their department and business needs.

When working from home, the requirements include:

  • Must have reliable internet service with a fast upload/download ability
  • Ability to ensure any protected health or proprietary data/information is not visible (or audible)  to others in any work location
  • Must have a quiet space to speak to members, team members, or external partners with minimal background noise and distractions

In addition to a competitive compensation package, we’re offering the chance to be the change you wish to see in your community. Help us work toward a future where everyone can have a healthy life filled with belonging, love, and purpose.

We’re a recovery-friendly workplace that values family life, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
