About Us

Logistics is broken. Let’s fix it.

At Augment, we're reinventing the way freight moves—with intelligent AI agents that can reason, learn, and take action in real-world environments. We’re a team of engineers, designers, and operators who’ve built multi-billion dollar companies and industry-defining products. Now, we’re applying that experience to one of the world’s most foundational (and outdated) industries: logistics.

We’re at the early stages of building something transformational. Our Toronto engineering team is small but growing, and we’re looking for a hands-on, deeply technical leader who thrives in ambiguity, cares about people, and is excited to build systems and culture from the ground up.

What You’ll Do
  • Build from zero to one — Own and drive technical execution in Toronto, designing and building systems from scratch.

  • Stay hands-on — Write production code regularly, and contribute to architectural decisions and system design.

  • Lead and inspire — Mentor engineers and cultivate a culture of technical excellence, curiosity, and ownership.

  • Scale the team — Hire exceptional engineers and define the culture, rituals, and performance standards of a growing office.

  • Partner cross-functionally — Work closely with Product, AI, and Ops to set roadmaps and align priorities.

  • Lead with data — Use a metrics-driven approach to management, and clearly articulate the "why" behind engineering practices, org structure, and performance tracking.

  • Foster collaboration — Bridge the Toronto team with our counterparts in San Francisco and Austin. Build a team that thrives in a hybrid multi-office environment.

What We’re Looking For
  • 8+ years of engineering experience, with 3+ years in technical leadership or people management roles.

  • You’re a strong coder who wants to stay technical and hands-on—especially at the early stages.

  • Experience building early-stage products, systems, and teams (ideally in a fast-moving startup environment).

  • Technical depth in TypeScript, Node.js, Python, and distributed systems.

  • Strong communication skills: you can explain complex trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • You bring a data-informed leadership style: you have a clear point of view on team rituals, performance management, and prioritization—and you can explain it.

  • Excited to work in-person in Toronto and build a world-class engineering hub from the ground up.

Bonus Points For
  • Experience in logistics, freight, shipping, or adjacent industries.

  • Experience working with or building AI agents, LLMs, or agentic architectures.

  • Familiarity with tools like OpenAI, Anthropic, Cartesia, or Eleven Labs.

  • Experience scaling engineering teams across multiple offices or distributed teams.

  • Open-source contributions, technical writing, or public talks that reflect your thinking and craft.

Our Stack
  • TypeScript (Node.js), Python

  • React, Redux

  • AWS (RDS MySQL, SQS, SNS)

  • Independent service-oriented architecture with strong observability, logging, and testing practices

Why Join Us?

This is a rare chance to lead at the ground floor of a company building some of the most advanced real-world AI systems. You’ll define the culture and technology of a new engineering hub, shape critical product decisions, and grow alongside a group of thoughtful, ambitious builders.
