The Director of Engineering is responsible for company's precast product design, technical support, product approvals, and building code matters. This role develops new products, maintains specifications for existing products, and represents the company in industry organizations. The Director also leads environmental and regulatory compliance efforts and works with government agencies on permits and site development for the Company’s facilities and branches.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design new precast concrete products and improve existing products, considering structural performance, code requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and cost.
- Maintain product drawings, calculations, specifications, installation details, and other technical documents.
- Prepare and maintain Florida Product Approvals and Miami-Dade County Notices of Acceptance, including required testing, submissions, revisions, and renewals.
- Provide technical support to customers, architects, engineers, building officials, sales, manufacturing, and quality teams.
- Investigate product performance and field issues and develop practical solutions.
- Monitor changes to building codes and industry standards and determine their impact on Cast-Crete’s products.
- Represent the concrete industry on the Florida Building Commission’s Structural Technical Advisory Committee and Hurricane Research Advisory Committee, subject to appointment.
- Participate in The Masonry Society, ASTM International, and the Concrete Masonry & Hardscape Association on company's behalf.
- Lead the Company’s environmental and regulatory compliance efforts, directing employees involved in permits, monitoring, inspections, reporting, and corrective actions.
- Work with counties and other government agencies on facility permits, site development, expansions, and requirements affecting locations.
- Coordinate with operations on water supply, wastewater, stormwater, dust, noise, and other environmental matters applicable to each company location.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or a related engineering discipline.
- Active Florida Professional Engineer license.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in precast concrete, concrete products, structural building products, or a related field.
- Experience preparing structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical submissions.
- Strong knowledge of applicable building codes and concrete industry standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, manufacturing personnel, design professionals, and government agencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing precast lintels, sills, prestressed products, or other concrete components used in masonry construction.
- Experience obtaining and maintaining Florida product approvals and Miami-Dade County Notice of Acceptances.
- Participation in building code or concrete industry committees.
- Experience with facility permitting, environmental compliance, and site development.
- Experience developing new products through testing, approval, and production.
