Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis North America team is seeking a Director, Engineering & Operations Support to build and lead a brand-new organization from the ground up. As Director, Engineering & Operations Support, you will report to the Senior Vice President, Operations, North America, and lead a talented team of senior engineers, with the Manager, Quality and Manager, Engineering & Reliability reporting directly to this role. You will provide regional leadership for strategic engineering projects, reliability and maintenance, and quality systems and processes across our North American manufacturing plants — shaping the function's direction and playing a pivotal role in achieving our operational and financial targets. We are looking for a highly experienced, hands-on leader who thrives on the challenge of standing up a new team and is energized by the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on our organization.

Responsibilities
  • Build and lead a new, centralized engineering, reliability, maintenance, and quality organization — supporting manufacturing plants, customers, and tolling operations across North America.
  • Ensure projects and technical activities align with environmental, health, and safety requirements, engineering controls, regulatory obligations, and management-of-change expectations.
  • Establish a transparent process to assess, prioritize, and deploy technical resources based on safety, customer impact, operational risk, business value, and regional priorities.
  • Provide governance and technical oversight for feasibility studies, front-end engineering, project development, execution, commissioning, startup, and operational ramp-up.
  • Lead the resolution of significant plant and tolling quality issues through structured root-cause analysis, stronger controls, consistent practices, and prevention of recurrence.
  • Advance reliability and asset performance through equipment strategy, failure elimination, preventive and predictive maintenance, outage support, and disciplined technical problem solving.
  • Develop technical talent, strengthen standards and knowledge transfer, align multi-functional collaborators, and communicate recommendations, portfolio updates, and material risks to senior leaders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 15 or more years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing engineering, quality, reliability, maintenance, capital projects, or a closely related operations rigor.
  • Experience leading managers and multidisciplinary technical teams in a multi-site, matrixed manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with project governance, feasibility and front-end engineering, capital justification, supplier management, and safe project execution.
  • Broad knowledge of reliability fundamentals, rolling process fundamentals, advanced engineering and diagnostic analysis, and financial analysis for project return on investment.
  • Strong engineering judgment, systems thinking, prioritization, and the ability to influence, negotiate, and align senior partners across organizational boundaries.
  • Demonstrated experience leading organizational change, including standing up, restructuring, or scaling a new function or team.
  • Proven experience directly managing other managers or leaders, in addition to broader technical teams.
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems and methodologies (e.g., ISO 9001, Six Sigma, root-cause/CAPA analysis).
  • Proven ability to communicate with, present to, and influence executive leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (MBA or Master's in Engineering).
  • Operational leadership experience.
  • Experience managing complex projects and capital expenditure budgets.
  • Experience in aluminum or rolled/cast metal production, heavy industrial, automotive, or continuous-process manufacturing.
  • Six Sigma or Lean certification (e.g., Black Belt).
  • Track record of building or reorganizing engineering and/or quality functions.
