JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Development and Communications is a member of the senior leadership team responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of all fundraising, donor engagement, marketing, communications, public relations, and community outreach efforts for Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando. 

This position develops and implements comprehensive strategies to increase philanthropic support, strengthen community engagement, enhance organizational visibility, and advance the mission of the organization. This role leads a team responsible for development and communications initiatives, including annual giving, major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, special events, digital marketing, media relations, donor stewardship, and brand management. Working closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders, the Director of Development and Communications drives revenue growth, fosters meaningful relationships, and ensures a consistent and compelling organizational presence throughout the community.

  • Serve as a member of the senior leadership team and contribute to organizational planning, budgeting, goal setting, and strategic decision-making.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising, communications, and marketing strategies that support the organization's mission, strategic priorities, and financial sustainability.
  • Lead all philanthropic revenue-generating activities, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate partnerships, grants, special events, digital fundraising, and donor stewardship programs.
  • Build, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, government agencies, and community stakeholders to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Develop strategies to diversify revenue streams, increase donor retention, expand donor acquisition, and strengthen long-term philanthropic support.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of grant proposals and ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements.
  • Establish and monitor fundraising performance metrics, donor engagement benchmarks, and communications analytics to evaluate effectiveness and inform decision-making.
  • Develop and manage departmental operating budgets and ensure the effective use of resources to maximize organizational impact.
  • Lead the development and implementation of integrated communications and marketing plans that increase awareness, engagement, volunteer participation, and financial support.
  • Ensure consistent brand identity, messaging, and storytelling across all internal and external communications platforms.
  • Oversee digital marketing, website management, social media, email communications, public relations, media relations, and print materials.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the organization as appropriate and support crisis communication planning and response efforts.
  • Recruit, develop, supervise, and evaluate development and communications staff while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to strengthen fundraising efforts, donor engagement, and community relationships.
  • Prepare and present reports, recommendations, and strategic updates to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Represent Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando at community events, donor meetings, public engagements, and partnership opportunities.
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and effective utilization of donor databases, fundraising systems, and constituent records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals and mission delivery.

Skills Required

  • Strategic leadership of fundraising and communications programs
  • Proven track record raising philanthropic revenue (annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate partnerships, grants)
  • Experience preparing grant proposals and managing grant compliance/reporting
  • Experience with digital marketing, website management, social media, and email communications
  • Experience managing donor databases and fundraising systems
  • Departmental budget development and financial management experience
  • Experience recruiting, supervising, and evaluating staff; team leadership
  • Strong written and verbal communication, public speaking, and media relations skills
  • Ability to serve as organizational spokesperson and support crisis communications
