Summary of Position
The Director Data Risk is responsible for enterprise data risk management and collaborating with partners across the firm to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and conformance with data life-cycle management industry practices.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Partners with first line to develop and implement an enterprise data governance framework based on a long-term vision.
- Creates and manages a central process to capture, prioritize and manage data governance efforts across all departments within the organization, excluding security, privacy and technology.
- Partners closely with the IT data governance and operations teams to ensure quality data supports regulatory reporting needs, robust data analytics infrastructure and predictive modeling capabilities.
- Monitors data quality through various metrics and KPIs.
- Works closely with leadership across the firm to execute the data governance strategy utilizing technology where possible and building in functionality enhancements to prevent users from tainting clean data.
- Employs organizational change management practices to assist with adoption of data governance within the organization.
- Serves as a liaison between business, functional areas, and information technology to ensure that data-related business requirements and rules for data quality and protection are clearly defined, communicated, understood, and implemented.
- Partners with other stakeholders across the bank for all pillars of the data governance framework.
- Develops and communicates goals, strategies, tactics, project plans, timelines, and key performance metrics to reach goals.
- Responsible for advancing an understanding of and appreciation for data governance, as well as the associated requirements, across the enterprise.
- Manages the annual performance management and merit processes for direct and indirect reports. Coaches and develops team members and builds a work environment where team members are engaged and feel a positive sense of achievement about their role in the firm.
- Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
- Meets all the client's financial needs, both business and personal, and refers clients to other specialty areas such as Trust, Investments, Insurance, Treasury Management, etc. as appropriate.
- Assists other team members as needed to ensure delivery of distinctive service.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education:
- College degree is preferred -- finance or business-related field. Specialty in a technical field such as data science, operations research, statistics, mathematics, or computer science is strongly preferred.
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in financial services and/or in data management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) or related software.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving ability with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize daily tasks.
- Excellent client service skills. Tact and diplomacy in dealing with both clients and associates.
Skills Required
- College degree, preferably in finance or business; technical specialization in data science, operations research, statistics, mathematics, or computer science strongly preferred
- At least 10 years of experience in financial services and/or data management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, or related software
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and prioritize daily tasks
- Excellent client service skills and tact in dealing with clients and associates
