About the Organisation

The Order of Malta Ireland is a registered charity with a worldwide footprint and all-island humanitarian organisation operating across 59 communities in 5 regions. Through its Ambulance Corps, Hospitaller works, and extensive volunteer network, the organisation delivers vital services to communities across Ireland, supported by strong governance, safeguarding, and regulatory frameworks. As the organisation enters its next phase of development, it is seeking to appoint a Director of Corporate Services to lead and strengthen operational delivery and organisational effectiveness.

The Role

Reporting to the President and Board of Trustees, the Director of Corporate Services will act as the senior operational leader at the Order of Malta headquarters. This role is central to strengthening executive capacity, organisational discipline, and delivery across the organisation. You will provide strong day-to-day leadership, ensuring that Board priorities, strategic objectives, and regulatory requirements are translated into effective operational delivery. Working closely with the President, Treasurer, Secretary General, National Director, Hospitaler, and key volunteer leaders, you will bring structure, accountability, and follow-through across the organisation’s central functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership and lead day-to-day operations and manage and drive organisational change and performance.

  • Translate strategy into clear operational plans and ensure delivery

  • Manage organisational risk and maintain a detailed risk register

  • Overseeing a property portfolio

  • Support effective Board and committee processes, including reporting and follow-through

  • Provide financial oversight, controls, and audit readiness

  • Oversee HR and organisational capability, supporting performance and development

  • Ensure compliance with governance, safeguarding, and regulatory requirements

  • Provide coordination and communication across functions and regions

About You

You are a senior business leader with a strong track record of delivery in a complex, regulated environment. Possessing excellent communication and interpersonal skills you are practical, organised, and capable of bringing structure and accountability while working effectively with Boards, senior stakeholders, and volunteer-led organisations. You will have respect for and be responsible to promote and model the core ethos and values of the organisation.

You will demonstrate:

  • An experienced people leader with proven experience in operational areas of HR, finance, procurement, service delivery, compliance and broad general management skills

  • Significant experience in a senior leadership role (e.g. General Manager, or similar) working with a broad range of stakeholders

  • Experience within a charity, healthcare, public interest, or similarly regulated environment

  • Strong capability and experience in financial oversight, governance, and organisational delivery

  • A solid understanding of the Charities Governance Code, with the ability to apply it in practice

  • Experience working with Boards, Trustees, and/or volunteer-led structures

  • Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills

  • The ability to operate effectively in a mission-based environment

  • Professional qualification in business related areas is required, and the organisation will consider candidates from a variety of disciplines

  • Experience working with a property portfolio and related regulations
