Essential Responsibilities: What You Will Be Doing


The Director of Clinical Education’s primary responsibilities during this 11-month appointment are to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty.

This includes:

  • Communication between Maryville University and the Affiliated Clinical Education Sites
  • Clinical Education Program Planning, Implementation, and Assessment
  • Clinical Site and Clinical Faculty Development
  • Preparation of students for clinical experiences and advising students on clinical selection
  • Evaluation of student performance in cooperation with the program director, other faculty, and the clinical instructor

To achieve this:


The Director of Clinical Education oversees all activities related to clinical experiences.

This includes:

 

I. Ensuring all Students ae ready to enter clinical experiences and have the opportunity for success which includes:

 

a) Review all clinical experiences evaluations by the students and clinical instructors to facilitate change in the clinical experience if needed.

b) Oversee and review all clinical site visits scheduling of faculty and review of documentation post-visit to ensure success of the students.

c) Presenting all students and their clinical placements to the faculty for review to ensure students have met the following 4 areas to move into clinical experiences.

  • Safety
  • Professional Behavior
  • Communication
  • Knowledge

d) Monitoring and tracking all students' progress through clinical experiences.


II. Manages the business of clinical education.

  1. Present to faculty CPI Results (Overall and Individual Student) and any comments/issues by clinical instructors that may need to be addressed by the program.
  2. Update the clinical handbook annually and ensure students and clinical sites are aware of any updates.
  3. Utilize the EXXAT system for clinical updates and site/student matching process.
  4. Meet deadlines for: 
  1. Maryville University Legal Team (contracts and issues related to NC-SARA)
  2. EXXAT for clinic matching
  3. All reports needed for CAPTE, HLC, and any other university requirements.

III. Clinical Management - The DCE is responsible to ensure:

  1. All clinical sites are updated and current. On March 1st each year a request for clinical slots the following year is sent.
  2. Establishment of agreements with clinical experience sites and ensures all clinical site agreements are current.
  3. Ensure all clinical instructors meet requirements and are qualified to be a clinical instructor.
  4. Ensure all clinical instructors are trained in the use of the CPI.
  5. All students are submitted into the system going into the 5th year and matched to sites according to the established timeline; current 6th year students are matched for their three terminal clinical experiences in early fall. Then, 5th year students are matched for their first integrated clinical experience.
  6. All communication with clinical sites is updated and current.
  7. All documentation for each clinical experience is up to date and provided with clinical sites with letters regarding student placement.

Required Knowledge:


Must be PT-licensed (or eligible for license) in the State of Missouri.


Required Skills and Abilities


Experience in clinical education as a clinical instructor, site coordinator, previous DCE experience, and have completed 3.0 CPI Training.


Required Formal Education:


Advanced Academic Degree or Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree Required. Certifications Preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $85,000 - $112,000 annually
    • Actual compensation will be commensurate with education, experience, skills, internal equity, and market considerations.

Skills Required

  • Current physical therapist license or eligibility for licensure in Missouri
  • Experience in clinical education as a clinical instructor, site coordinator, or previous Director of Clinical Education
  • Completion of 3.0 CPI Training
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy degree
  • Board certification or an advanced academic degree
