Job Description Summary

The Director of Business Intelligence & Analytics leads the University’s efforts to deliver trusted, accessible, and actionable data that powers informed decision-making across the institution.
This role sets the direction for modern analytics and data solutions, advancing a scalable, forward-looking data architecture that meets the evolving needs of the University. In close partnership with divisional analytics leaders and institutional stakeholders, the Director ensures alignment with data governance practices—building a secure, standardized data environment that reduces silos and strengthens institutional trust.
The Director advances data as a strategic institutional asset, enabling leaders to make faster, clearer, and more confident decisions. Through strong leadership and collaboration, this position builds and develops a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team and a modern data ecosystem that brings our vision of Data At Your Fingertips to life.

Job Description

Duties:

  • Partner with institutional data and analytics leaders to shape and advance a shared vision for modern, trusted analytics aligned to evolving data architecture practices.

  • Lead the continued rebuilding and advancement of the University’s data platform, guiding the evolution of warehouses, lakehouses, and data marts toward a more scalable, integrated ecosystem.

  • Work collaboratively across the institution to reduce data silos and support the rehoming of data into secure, standardized, and sustainable environments.

  • Ensure data is reliable, well-managed, and accessible, establishing practices that strengthen institutional trust and long-term usability.

  • Guide and deliver analytics and reporting solutions that provide clear, actionable insights aligned to institutional priorities.

  • Expand and support self-service analytics and advance data literacy across the institution, enabling confident and effective use of data in decision-making.

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team of analytics, data engineering, and reporting professionals.

  • Establish strong, collaborative relationships with academic and administrative leaders to understand priorities and deliver meaningful, aligned solutions.

  • Provide insights and guidance to senior leaders to support institutional strategy and decision-making.

  • Lead institutional change efforts related to data, analytics, and platform modernization, ensuring coordination, clear direction, and measurable outcomes.

  • Accountable for the delivery and effectiveness of institutional analytics solutions, ensuring alignment with data governance strategy, privacy, security, and consistent practices.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field earned by date of hire

  • AND eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in data, analytics, or related disciplines

  • AND direct experience leading direct reports and functional teams

  • AND leading an institution-level major initiative in analytics, data engineering, or business intelligence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field

  • Experience in higher education or similarly complex and/or siloed organizations

  • Experience with Workday FIN/HR/Payroll and Student data structures, integrations, and reporting (PRISM or similar; Banner a plus)

  • Experience with cloud-based data ecosystems and modern data architectures (e.g., Snowflake, Tableau, dbt, Airflow, etc.) 

  • Experience applying predictive analytics, machine learning, or AI capabilities to business or institutional challenges

  • Relevant certifications or formal training in data, analytics, or leadership

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Ability to align data strategy, governance, and delivery to support institutional goals

  • Ability to lead, develop, and coach high-performing teams in a data-focused environment

  • Ability to build trust, influence, and strong working relationships across a wide range of stakeholders

  • Skilled at translating complex data and technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences

  • Ability to apply data governance, data management, and data quality practices to ensure trusted and reliable data

  • Experience enabling the effective use of modern analytics and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar), Oracle OAS/ODI, and RPD a plus.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives in a dynamic and evolving environment
