Director, Business Development, Rights & Permissions

We are looking for an experienced Director, Business Development, Rights & Permissions, who will support the Media Services department. This licensing position will be responsible for building relationships with publishers while retaining and expanding rights to content packaged in NewsBank products. Join our fast-paced team at NewsBank, inc., a premier information provider for more than 50 years. With nearly 15,000 sources from around the globe, we partner with domestic and international publishers to provide diverse perspectives for research. This role is part of a team securing rights for current and historical collections that span 100+ years. Our collections serve schools, libraries, universities, genealogists, and professionals globally with valuable primary source information. The position is remote from your home office and includes travel 3 - 6 days a month.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with publishers to license, renew and expand NewsBank’s rights and services
  • Create and present proposals to publishers outlining NewsBank’s terms and services
  • Responsible for contract review and revisions
  • Sales administration and reporting including status reporting, write-ups, and customer tracking systems
  • Project manage / coordinate the implementation of the final contract, maintain ongoing account management, and as appropriate further develop that account
  • Sales presentations and travel 3 – 6 days per month
  • Responsible to complete other job assignments, as requested

Experience & Background Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 – 7 years’ experience preferred
  • Background in, or knowledge of the news industry and its content licensing practices is highly desirable
  • Sales Experience - Requires a combination of consultation/negotiation, focused on forming relationships in tandem with problem solving
  • Proven track record of success in sourcing content from the publishing community
  • Background in license agreements and contract review
