The Role
Hi, we’re Underdog!

We’re the fastest-growing sports gaming company ever.

We build innovative games and products for American sports fans.

Founded in 2020, our team built four of today’s most widely played fantasy games and recently launched our Underdog Sportsbook. We are the only sportsbook to ever launch on our own home grown technology, which allows us to build different and innovative experiences. We believe there’s so much more to be built for sports fans, and we’ll continue to win by building the best products and experiences for our customers.

The opportunity in front of us to become the biggest company in our space is massive; after all, we’re currently sitting in the fastest-growing consumer industry in the U.S. In just over two years, we reached a nearly $500 million valuation through some of the best investors in the game, including Mark Cuban, Kevin Durant, BlackRock, and SV Angel. We are many times larger now and our growth is not slowing down.

At Underdog, we believe that sports are for everyone and are building a tomorrow for every fan. Want to help create that future? Join us.

About the role and why it’s unique:

We’re looking for a Director of Analytics to lead our Strategy & Operations Analytics team. In this role, you will directly manage a team of analysts, collaborating with stakeholders to design data-driven solutions for operational challenges such as optimizing workflows, improving trading performance, and identifying actionable insights. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives on solving business problems and driving measurable outcomes through data.

  • Lead and Develop the Team:
    • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of analysts, fostering a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and impact.
    • Provide coaching and professional development opportunities, enabling your team to excel individually and collectively.
  • Deliver Strategic Insights:
    • Partner with leaders across Strategy, Operations, and other teams to define key business questions and deliver actionable insights that inform decision-making.
    • Drive analysis to uncover trends, identify opportunities, and solve complex business challenges.
  • Operationalize Analytics:
    • Collaborate with teams to define and track KPIs, ensuring alignment with company goals.
    • Build scalable reporting frameworks to empower stakeholders with real-time access to data.
    • Establish processes for ad-hoc analysis requests, balancing flexibility with long-term scalability.
  • Drive Data-Driven Decision Making:
    • Act as a thought partner to leadership, contributing to the development of strategies that are grounded in data.
    • Translate complex analyses into clear, concise, and impactful recommendations.

Who you are:

  • Experienced Leader: You have 8+ years of experience in analytics, with at least 4 years managing a team. You’ve successfully led analysts or data scientists who deliver high-quality insights.
  • Strong Communicator: You excel at communicating complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences. You’re skilled at tailoring your messaging to influence and inspire stakeholders at all levels.
  • Technically Proficient: You have advanced SQL skills and familiarity with modern analytics tools such as dbt, Looker, or Tableau. Experience with scripting languages like Python or R is a plus.
  • Strategic Thinker: You’re not just about the numbers—you’re focused on the “why” and “how.” You’re adept at using data to connect the dots and see the bigger picture.
  • Collaborative and Curious: You thrive in a team-oriented environment and enjoy diving deep into problems. You’re not afraid to challenge assumptions or ask tough questions.
  • Impact-Oriented: You’re motivated by driving meaningful outcomes for the business, not just completing tasks.

Even better if you have:

  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment in a consumer tech industry - ideally in fantasy sports or online gaming.
  • Familiarity with operational domains such as prod ops, customer support, trading, or risk management.
  • Strong project management skills, with a track record of successfully balancing multiple priorities.

Our target starting base salary range for this position is between $208,000 and $235,000, plus target equity. The starting base salary will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s skills and experience, among other things.

What we can offer you:

  • Unlimited PTO (we're extremely flexible with the exception of the first few weeks before & into the NFL season)
  • 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave
  • A $500 home office allowance
  • A connected virtual first culture with a highly engaged distributed workforce
  • 5% 401k match, FSA, company paid health, dental, vision plan options for employees and dependents
