Director of Accounting

SUMMARY: 

The candidate is responsible for leading the accounting team and overseeing all general ledger activities and financial reporting, proper implementation and maintenance of the Company’s accounting policies and procedures, and ensuring successful completion of the Company’s SEC filings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Limoneira’s job descriptions describe the key areas of responsibility but do not attempt to describe all activities or areas of responsibility.  In most cases, the description covers approximately 80% of an individual's daily, weekly, or monthly job duties.

• Lead, supervise and oversee the accounting team responsible for general ledger activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, grower accounting and financial reporting
• Develop and maintain strong accounting policies, procedures and internal controls
• Review of consolidation, financial statements, account reconciliations and account roll forwards
• Oversee preparation of SEC financial statements, including statement of cash flows and disclosures
• Review of 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K filings for compliance with FASB guidance and SEC rules
• Analysis and implementation of GAAP changes to the business and financial reporting
• Plan, organize and coordinate the quarter and year-end reporting process with internal and external auditors
• Oversee SOX compliance efforts with Company’s outsourced SOX compliance firm and external auditors
• Ensure accurate recording of quarterly and annual tax provisions with Company’s outsourced tax firm
• Ensure successful completion of tax return filings with Company's outsourced tax firm
• Contract review for accounting implications and related technical accounting research on issues (to include analysis, position memos and disclosures)
• Assist with transaction due diligence
• Perform annual goodwill and other long-lived asset impairment analysis
• Review and approve manual journal entries
• Review stock-based compensation and lease accounting and disclosures
• Review accounting for foreign subsidiaries and equity method investments
• Assist with ERP implementations and enhancements related to accounting and financial reporting
• Assist with coordination of annual operating and capital budgets
• Mentor, hire, train and retain competent accounting and financial reporting staff
• Ad-hoc projects and project management
• Any other project assigned by Corporate Controller or Senior Management

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Must have a bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, CPA preferred and experience in public accounting is highly valued. At least 10 years’ experience in accounting or finance processes; experience in the preparation of SEC reporting documents, SOX regulations and GAAP, including previous management responsibilities.  possess a valid California driver's license, maintain a clean DMV record, and is able to be insured by the carrier

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office and have an excellent understanding of accounting software, must have a complete understanding of accounting principles and concepts; must represent Limoneira in a professional manner (must display professionalism and politeness when speaking to auditors, consultants and colleagues).
