Who we are: The Asian Pacific Islander Political Alliance's (API PA) mission is to build long-term power for Asian Americans in Pennsylvania by coordinating political, electoral, and legislative work to hold our elected officials accountable; engaging in culturally competent and linguistically accessible direct voter contact with our communities; developing a base of values-aligned and politically activated Asian Americans in Pennsylvania; and building solidarity with other aligned communities of color across the state.
API PA is the first and only statewide political organization directly advocating for the needs of Asian communities in Pennsylvania. Digital Organizer: The Digital Organizer reports directly to the Communications Director and works closely with the Digital Manager as a part of API PA’s communications team. This is a hybrid position. The Digital Organizer can work virtually but must be located in the Philadelphia area and commute regularly for in-person meetings, events, and other activities.
This role implements API PA’s digital and communications strategies in support of its basebuilding and electoral work to build power in and for Asian communities in Pennsylvania. The ideal person in this role has organizing experience (student organizing, youth organizing, etc) and is also a creative with experience in graphic design. This person must also thrive in a collaborative team environment and be excited to try different kinds of digital and traditional communications strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
40% Content Creation
- Serve as the primary graphic designer for the organization. Deliverables could include canvassing materials, election materials, event promotional materials, reports, social media graphics, internal and external communications templates, and design for swag.
- Coordinate with other staff around translation needs and services.
- Develop written content for emails, social media captions, and blogs, as needed.
40% Organizing
- Use relational organizing to outreach to PA Asian American digital creators to join the API PA Creator Cohort
- Co-create political education programming for the Creator Cohort in collaboration with the Digital Manager
- Support Digital Manager with the management of digital advocacy campaigns
- Work with our communications team to help API PA members and supporters share their stories through videos, images, writing, email, and press
10% Social Media Management
- Engage with online audiences via social media as needed
- Analyze social media trends and ideate creative strategies
- Analyze social media metrics to improve overall strategies
10% Generalized Support and Admin
- Meeting facilitation as needed
- Manage and maintain organizational websites
- Perform other duties as required to support the work of the organization as a whole
Qualifications:
- There is no formal education requirement for this position. Ideal candidates will have at least 1 year of community, issue, or electoral organizing experience; and 1 year of experience managing a professional brand account or as a graphic designer.
- Expertise with graphic design software and technologies (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Possesses experience with or a deep understanding of Asian American communities, as well as a commitment to ensuring culturally sensitive and multilingual communications.
- Motivated by API PA organizational mission and vision.
- You understand best practices of how to engage, organize, and mobilize people via email and social media and how online engagement can drive in-person engagement.
- You have experience with or are excited to learn our database (The VAN + EveryAction) to track supporters, volunteers, and events, and use data to identify strategic ways to engage supporters.
Preferred, not required:
- Conversational grasp of at least one Asian language, and familiarity with the dynamics of Asian/American communities in Pennsylvania.
- Experience with and knowledge of Pennsylvania’s political terrain.
