A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DIETARY AIDE

As a Dietary Aide at River Oaks of Minnesota, you are on the front line of enhancing residents’ daily living experience by overseeing high-quality dining services, ensuring nutritional needs are met, and maintaining safe, compliant food service operations. Your responsibilities include:

  • Prepares and portions safe, nutritious meals and snacks for residents in an assisted living environment under the direction of the Dietary Manager or Cook.
  • Assists in assembling meal trays according to standardized recipes and therapeutic diet guidelines to meet individual resident dietary needs.
  • Supports daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, tray setup, meal delivery, and timely service to residents.
  • Maintains compliance with food safety standards, proper sanitation practices, and assisted living regulations.
  • Ensures accurate portion control, proper labeling, and safe food storage procedures.
  • Assists with dishwashing, cleaning kitchen equipment, and maintaining a sanitary work environment.
  • Supports inventory management, proper stock rotation (FIFO), and communicates supply needs to the supervisor.
  • Engages respectfully with residents during meal service, accommodating preferences within established dietary guidelines.
  • Collaborates effectively with dietary, nursing, and interdisciplinary staff to ensure residents’ nutritional needs are met.

Skills Required

  • Full-time availability
  • Prepare and portion meals according to standardized recipes and therapeutic diet guidelines
  • Knowledge of food safety standards, proper sanitation practices, and safe food storage (FIFO)
  • Ability to perform kitchen tasks including tray assembly, meal delivery, dishwashing, and equipment cleaning
  • Support inventory management and communicate supply needs to supervisor
  • Engage respectfully with residents and collaborate with dietary, nursing, and interdisciplinary staff
  • Passion for supporting individuals with physical and mental health challenges
