SMX is seeking a driven and talented DevSecOps Engineer. This role focuses on modern enterprise container hosting platforms, both on-premises and in the AWS cloud. As a DevSecOps Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting mission-critical systems for the U.S. Navy at Patuxent River Naval Air Station. You’ll collaborate with technical experts across the deployment lifecycle—from design to sustainment—working with platforms like RedHat OpenShift, AWS EKS, and ECS.
This position will be hybrid with some onsite support at the client location in Patuxent River, MD.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Participate in the full deployment lifecycle of enterprise container hosting platforms, both on-premises and in AWS, including RedHat OpenShift, AWS EKS, and upcoming AWS ECS with Fargate implementations
- Provide technical evaluations, create designs, implement solutions, and manage documentation, deployment, and sustainment of container platforms and their supporting infrastructure
- Apply DevSecOps principles and collaborate across CI/CD pipelines to streamline delivery, security, and infrastructure management
- Serve as a containerization subject matter expert, offering support and technical guidance to Mission Owners within NAWCAD
- Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of AWS core services such as EC2, Lambda, S3, VPC, IAM, EBS, and assist with troubleshooting and new Mission Owner onboarding
- Complete additional tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Data Center Management Team
Required Skills & Experience:
- Clearance Required: Top Secret
- Must be available for onsite work at Patuxent River NAS
- 5+ years of experience in enterprise-level systems administration
- Must meet DoD 8570 IAT Level II requirements (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, CCNA Security, GICSP, GSEC, CND, SSCP)
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code using tools like Ansible and/or Terraform
- Strong background in Linux systems administration, specifically RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
- Deep understanding of DoD enterprise on-premise networks. Experience with public, private, and hybrid cloud environments, including AWS GovCloud
- Working knowledge of Windows Active Directory, ACAS, DNS, and STIG remediation. Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Python, R)
- Familiarity with source code management and version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Solid grasp of hybrid cloud architectures and data integration practices
Desired Skills & Experience
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead complex technical projects within a structured, delivery-focused team environment
- Familiarity with DoD Navy networks is preferred
- A degree in a technical discipline is preferred
- Basic understanding of API development/integration
- Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, Developer) are a plus
