About the Role
You’ll be part of our efficient, technology-obsessed, and collaborative Platform Engineering team, where you will design, build, and maintain solutions that extend our AWS cloud-based platform. This role is a cross-functional blend of backend Software Engineering and Infrastructure Ops/DevOps. You will have the opportunity to dive deep into all parts of our platform, participating in our journey to build a strong foundation for all of Flexion’s services and technology solutions.
Main Responsibilities
- Platform Evolution: Research, design, build, and automate the next iteration of the Flexion platform to serve tens of millions of daily requests globally.
- Developer Experience (DevEx): Improve the experience of our product teams by providing streamlined tools, standards, and processes for CI/CD and development environments.
- Scalable Engineering: Build robust, easy-to-use platform solutions and implement performance optimizations for critical service components.
- Architectural Migration: Take a key role in migrating remaining monolithic functionalities to a modern microservices design and deployment.
- Problem Decomposition: Break down complex systemic changes into small, safe, and incremental functional steps using Agile methodologies.
- Collaborative Ownership: Fully own and drive individual projects while maintaining clear communication and engaging in peer feedback sessions.
Required Skills and Experience
- Professional Experience: 2+ years of experience in software development or Ops/DevOps, ideally within a distributed team environment.
- Coding skills / Clean Code: Strong backend development skills; we use Java and Python for both our core services and our platform automation.
- Spring Boot: Proficiency in this industry-standard framework to provide standardized service setups for other development teams.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Experience managing virtual cloud infrastructure (AWS), and deep understanding of Unix/Linux/Bash and .
- Containerization: Hands-on experience with Docker as a standard unit of deployment and Kubernetes/Helm for automated cluster orchestration.
- Data Management: Proficiency in SQL (specifically MySQL) to manage and provide data storage services.
- Problem-Solving: A critical mindset with the ability to navigate complex systems where you rarely see the same problem twice.
Desired but not essential (would be a plus)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Git).
- Familiarity with GitOps practices and tools (e.g., Flux).
- Knowledge of testing frameworks like JUnit or TestNG.
