Senior DevOps Engineer

Few people get to build a bank from scratch. Even fewer get to build one at a moment when banking itself is being reinvented.

The dollar is the best product in the history of the world, with practically infinite global demand, but distribution is broken. Global clearing runs on legacy banks that are closed 115 days a year, built for humans and take two days to settle. Augustus is the update to the internet era. We received conditional approval from the OCC to charter America’s first stablecoin-native clearing bank that is always open, made for machines, at the speed of compute.

We are a group of operators, unicorn early employees, ex-founders and people who walked away from degrees because they believe this is an industry and career defining opportunity. We're backed with $40M from Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures, Creandum and founders of Ramp, Deel and Circle.

We are regulated in Europe and live with Euro and Stablecoin clearing today. Now, we are building the US team from the ground up, while continuing to grow rapidly in Europe.

You are DevOps #2. You join a Lead DevOps who has laid the groundwork - now you help scale it. You'll shape the infrastructure, automation, and reliability standards that let the entire engineering team ship faster and more safely.

You own big projects and drive them autonomously. You'll build and operate the platform that everything runs on - AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, observability, incident response, end to end. You work across engineering, security, and product to turn infrastructure into a competitive advantage. You design for failure, automate everything you can, and raise the bar for what production-grade means at a bank run by agents.

Ramp up and ship a big project in your first weeks on the job:

• Month 1-2: You ramp up on the current infrastructure - how deployments work, where the rough edges are, what is automated and what is not. You pick up your first big project as an IC and start shipping. You pair with the Lead DevOps but operate independently from week one.

• Month 3-4: You ship your first big project - for example, PR environment deployments or multi-region infrastructure. You scope the next project on the roadmap.

• Month 5-6: You shape the infrastructure roadmap alongside the Lead DevOps. You scope, plan, and drive projects as the lead. You are the person the engineering team trusts to keep the platform fast, reliable, and safe.

This role is for you if:

• You will write backend code, learn new tooling, or do whatever it takes to get the job done - you don't see anything as outside your lane.

• You care as much about developer experience as you do about uptime.

• Issues that block developers are your problems, not theirs.

• You are excited about designing infrastructure for a bank that runs on agents, not on legacy systems.

• You want to own the whole problem end to end, not a narrow slice of it.

This is not for you if:

• You think DevOps means maintaining Jenkins and writing Helm charts.

• You are a sysadmin by heart and do not step outside of infrastructure.

• You need a well-defined scope handed to you before you can start.

• You are not comfortable operating under banking-grade regulatory scrutiny.

• You need a large team around you to be effective.

• Experience: 4+ years in DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or similar roles.

• Cloud Fluency: Advanced hands-on experience with AWS (IAM, EC2, EKS, VPC, CloudWatch, etc.).

• Kubernetes Mastery: Ability to design, debug, and operate production-grade Kubernetes environments.

• IaC Expertise: Strong experience with Terraform (modules, workspaces, complex architectures).

• Automation Mindset: Proficiency in Python, Go, or similar languages for automation and tooling.

• CI/CD: Experience designing and maintaining GitHub Actions - or comparable CI/CD systems.

• Observability: Familiarity with metrics, logging, distributed tracing, and incident response best practices.

• Communication: You make complex infra concepts intuitive for developers and stakeholders.

• Based in Berlin or willing to relocate - this is an in-person role. We build together.
