Job Overview

iTakeControl is a clinical trial platform supporting live studies within a validated, GxP-compliant environment. We are bringing the platform fully in-house and building the team that will own and grow it.

We are looking for a strong DevOps Engineer to own the delivery foundation of the platform — the infrastructure, automation, security, and release pipelines that enable a lean team to deliver safely and operate multiple client studies reliably. Each client runs a dedicated instance, so a central focus is making the work of provisioning, securing, and releasing those instances fast, repeatable, and dependable.

As part of the transition, an early responsibility is to take ownership of the existing infrastructure and pipelines from the outgoing vendor — establishing full control, securing the environment, and bringing operational knowledge in-house.

This role extends well beyond routine maintenance. We are seeking an engineer who regards delivery performance as a core outcome — automating manual processes, strengthening areas of risk, and measuring what matters — on a platform where stability and data integrity carry regulatory weight.

The role works with US-based stakeholders and requires regular overlap with US hours, particularly around releases and incidents.

What You’ll Own

  • The transition and takeover of the platform’s infrastructure and pipelines from the outgoing vendor, including establishing control and securing the environment
  • The cloud infrastructure and reliability of a live, multi-client clinical platform
  • The automation that provisions, configures, and deploys client instances repeatably
  • The CI/CD and release pipelines across backend, web, and mobile
  • The platform’s secrets and credential lifecycle, together with its security and compliance automation
  • The observability and delivery metrics that indicate the health of both the platform and the delivery process
  • You will work closely with the Technical Lead (who owns technical direction), the development team, and QA. This role functions as an enabler of the entire team’s delivery, rather than as a standalone operations function.

What We’re Looking For

This is a hands-on engineering role. We are looking for proven, production capability across the areas below; specific responsibilities will be defined once the role is established.

Core Engineering Skills (must-have)

  • Cloud infrastructure on AWS — EC2, RDS, S3, VPC/networking, IAM; able to design, secure, and operate production infrastructure
  • Infrastructure as code — CloudFormation, Terraform, or equivalent; infrastructure defined and versioned, not hand-built
  • CI/CD pipeline ownership — designing and maintaining automated build, test, and deploy pipelines (GitLab CI or equivalent)
  • Containerisation and orchestration — Docker, and a production orchestrator (Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, or similar)
  • Secrets and security automation — secrets management (HashiCorp Vault or equivalent) and sound security instincts around credentials, access control, and the software supply chain
  • Observability — metrics, logging, and alerting (Prometheus / Grafana / Loki or equivalent), applied to drive reliability rather than merely to populate dashboards
  • Linux, networking, and TLS — proficient in operating production Linux servers, web routing, and certificate management
  • Automation and scripting — Bash, Python, or similar, with a strong inclination toward eliminating manual effort through automation

Delivery and Reliability Mindset

  • Regards safe, frequent, low-risk deployment as an objective in its own right, and is able to measure and improve delivery performance — deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, and time to recover
  • Designs for repeatability, converting one-off manual setups into reusable, self-service automation
  • Owns reliability end to end — backup and restore, rollback, and incident response that are tested rather than assumed
  • Maintains a security-first approach — sound instincts for containing and preventing credential exposure, and for building the guardrails that prevent it

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mobile release engineering — Fastlane, code signing (iOS provisioning profiles, Android keystores), and store and beta distribution (TestFlight, Google Play, Firebase App Distribution). As the mobile release pipeline is already established, the expectation is to own, operate, and extend it rather than build it from the ground up; candidates who are otherwise strong but new to this area are welcome to develop the capability in role
  • Regulated or healthcare environment — experience operating within HIPAA, GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, or equivalent frameworks, where audit trails and change control govern how deployments are made
  • Database change management — safe, automated, versioned schema migrations against live production data
  • Static analysis and dependency scanning — integration of security and quality gates (e.g. SonarQube) into CI
  • Cloud cost management — maintaining efficient spend across multiple client environments

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • 6+ years in DevOps, SRE, platform, or infrastructure engineering, with direct ownership of production cloud infrastructure
  • Proven experience building CI/CD and automation from the ground up, not only maintaining existing pipelines
  • Experience operating a live, customer-facing production system where downtime has real consequences
  • Healthcare or other regulated-industry experience preferred

*This job description captures the essential functions of this role as of July 2026. Management reserves the right to modify it as the platform and team evolve.*
