Position Type: Contracted, temporary
Location: Remote, U.S. Location preferredCompensation
- The compensation is $45 to $50 per hour commensurate with experience.
- This position is approved to be compensated for up to 160 hours per month based on the editorial department’s project-based workflow and contractor’s availability.
Summary
The person contracted for this role will receive work assignments and guidance from the Editorial Director and the Sr. Editor, Brand & Communications. A majority of assignments will be writing and/or editing Brand & Communications materials, including, but not limited to, web and social media copy, newsletters, blog posts, press releases, and case studies.
Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Razor-sharp developmental, line, copy editing, and proofreading to ensure consistency, accuracy, clarity, and overall readability for target audiences
- Writing marketing copy based on outlines and creative briefs provided by the Editorial Director and the Sr. Editor, Brand & Communications
- Exhibiting exceptional attention to detail with an ability to troubleshoot and multitask
- Effectively organizing and completing assignments that meet IM’s rigorous production deadlines, which often require quick turnaround times
General Qualifications
- BA/MA in journalism, public relations, marketing, or other related field
- A minimum of two years of experience writing and editing marketing materials
- Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style and/or AP Style
- Willingness to learn and use IM’s writing style guide to inform editing
- Social media content creation experience
- Available to respond to project assignment inquiries within one business day
- Understanding of appropriate voice, vocabulary, and compositional structure for varied audiences
- Exceptional ability to identify inconsistencies
- Self-motivated and highly organized, with exceptional follow-through, initiative, and commitment to excellence
- Strong interpersonal skills, with excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Familiarity with IM’s mathematics curriculum is preferred
- Strong computer skills with cloud-based systems, especially Google Workspace applications, Zoom, and Slack is preferred
