Salary – $75,000.00 - $80,000.00


This is a hybrid position and will require both in-office (3 days) and remote work (2 days).


The Development Manager is responsible for executing all CancerCare special events for the national and regional offices. Working in partnership with and reporting directly to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Development Manager will spearhead all special events, including but not limited to CancerCare’s current special events: annual walk, New York gala, New Jersey Festival of Hope, and golf outing in New York City, Long Island, and New Jersey, as well as any new events. The Development Manager will also manage a portfolio of individuals, organizations, and corporations to ensure the success of all fundraising events. 


The Development Manager will work closely with CancerCare Board Members, the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Advancement Officer, and key development staff to achieve the revenue necessary to attain the fundraising goals. These relationships will be characterized by effective communication, a positive attitude, and a commitment to the growth of CancerCare and the fulfillment of its mission through a mutual understanding of the organization's development objectives.


The Development Manager will be responsible for:

  • Develop short- and long-term events strategy plans, timelines, and strategies to increase revenue in coordination with the Chief Advancement Officer 
  • Implement overall special events strategy to meet revenue goals for events and special initiatives
  • Create an annual calendar of special events that maximizes the potential impact of fundraising and benefits critical areas of donor stewardship and recognition
  • Secure ongoing support from individuals, organizations, and corporations from the Development Manager portfolio to ensure the success of the events 
  • Collaborate with the Development Team in cultivating sponsorship, individual relationships, and identification of new opportunities for support
  • Work with the Individual Giving team to determine the invitation and cultivation of CancerCare donors and leverage events to engage Major Donors and foster increased support
  • Responsible for organizing committee meetings and kickoffs for successful event execution
  • Ensures accurate RSVP responses for events and preparation of lists, registration, seating, etc., as required for the organization before the event
  • Create a special events budget and monitor event income and expenses for all fundraising events
  • Develop cost-efficient, creative, and effective ways to increase net revenue
  • In conjunction with the Development Operations Team, prepare year-end reports, providing analysis and recommendations for future actions and improvements
  • Oversee the production of fundraising events, including theme selection, catering, list selection, mailings, response tracking, production of printed materials, volunteer coordination, and event logistics. Develop and maintain highly professional standards and procedures for the production of events in keeping with the image and reputation of CancerCare
  • Maintain exemplary relationships with any other outside caterers or vendors. Work with staff to maintain existing and identify appropriate new relationships with businesses and individuals for gift bags, raffle/auction, and other event-related donations
  • Oversee logistical requirements for pre- and post-event and onsite execution 
  • Develop and ensure the utilization of standardized systems and technology to automate elements of event planning, tracking, and production
  • Interact with trustees, committee members, community organizations, businesses, executives, public officials, donors, and vendors
  • Recruit volunteers and provide support to volunteer planning committees
  • Recruit individuals, businesses, schools, service groups, and clubs to support the mission and ensure the event program’s success
  • Cultivate and maintain long-term donor relationships
  • Oversee work of project-based consultants, vendors, and volunteers
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 3 years of job-related experience in special events fundraising 
  • Excellent networking skills as well as strong verbal and written communication
  • Meticulous organizational, project, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Strong customer relations skills and exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Virtuous, One Cause, and FunRaise
  • Must be flexible to work some evenings and weekends with travel to regional offices, New Jersey, and Long Island, and other locations as necessary.
  • Must be able to lift 25-40 lbs. and maintain a valid driver’s license
