Organizational Overview 

Since 1975, The Mustard Seed Street Church has been essential in fighting hunger and restoring faith within the Greater Victoria community. Our operations are nearly 100 percent community funded, and our services include a Food Bank, Food Rescue Program, Hospitality and Meal Programs, and Church Services. Through these core programs, we support over 65,000 individuals each month with the help of dedicated volunteers, staff, donors, and community partners. 

The Position 

The Development Coordinator provides cross-functional support across The Mustard Seed’s Development department, helping with fundraising, donor stewardship, volunteer engagement, events, communications, marketing, and community initiatives. 

Working closely with the Director of Development and other Development team members, this position provides practical, creative, and administrative support to help ensure departmental activities are well organized and delivered effectively. Responsibilities
include supporting donor acknowledgements, volunteer and event activities, social media and digital communications, marketing materials, community campaigns, food drives, and other initiatives.
 

As a flexible member of the team, the Development Coordinator provides additional support where needed and helps respond to changing departmental priorities. The ideal candidate is organized, collaborative, creative, adaptable, and comfortable supporting a variety of tasks. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support fundraising activities; community events, food and fund drives, seasonal
    campaigns and the annual giving plan
     
  • Support special projects and departmental initiatives. 
  • Research potential grant and funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, government programs, and other funders, and assist with tracking opportunities and deadlines. 
  • Support volunteer activities, communication, scheduling, onboarding, engagement, recognition, and record management.  
  • Create social media and marketing content, including researching trends, brainstorming, photography and filming, editing Reels and short-form video, creating graphics and promotional materials, and writing captions. 
  • Coordinate routine website updates and the internal monthly newsletter. 
  • Support community partnerships through stewardship, recognition, promotional materials, logistics, and participation in community events and presentations.

    Willing to learn, take initiative, research opportunities, solve problems, and provide flexible support across the Development department as priorities change. 
  • Digital & Technical Skills: Comfortable using and learning social media, CRM, website, email marketing, graphic design, video editing, volunteer management, and other digital platforms. 

  

Qualifications 

  • Education or experience in communications, marketing, fundraising, administration, public relations, or a related field is considered an asset.  
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain
    accurate records.
     
  • Familiarity with creative tools such as Canva, Adobe or similar graphic design and video editing platforms is considered an asset. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort using digital platforms, including CRM, website, email marketing, volunteer management, and social media systems. 
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required 
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance required. 

 

Terms of Employment 

  • Reports to: Director of Development  
  • Term: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week. 4-month contract from September through December (start date flexible) 
  • Monday to Friday (with evening and weekend availability required during community events and activations) 
  • Must read and comply with MSSC HR Manual 
  • Must sign and adhere to the MSSC Staff Code of Conduct  
  • MSSC follows BC Employment Standards 

Skills Required

  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort using CRM, website, email marketing, volunteer management, and social media systems
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or similar donor database
