Configure, monitor, and support Industrial Control Systems (ICS), such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), System packages, Vibration Monitoring Systems, Flow Computers, and Auxiliary Automation Systems under supervision of Senior Engineer DCS or PLC Senior Engineer for all Bapco Refining operating facilities and systems.

 

  1. Provision of 24/7 support services and ensure availability and reliability of ICS including the DCS/PLC to maintain continuous system functionality without interruption for the benefit of end users under minimal supervision of Senior Engineer DCS.

  2. Support Sr engineer in advising Company Management on gap identification, system enhancement and technology selection associated with ICS to ensure continues system reliability and to extend the system virtual lifecycle. 

  3. Execute approved projects related to ICS and OT and ensure timely completions of the projects without compromising cost, quality, and HSE.

  4.  Ensure updates of all Instrumentation and Automation documents published on the Document Management System (DMS).

  5. Ensure support in engineering incident investigations to propose/implement recommendations for solving identified problems.

Job Context: 

  1. The position of Engineer DCS is involved in working independently on managing approved projects and providing support services on 24x7 basis related to ICS and OT, under minimal supervision of Senior Engineer DCS.

  2. The job holder needs to use latest software tools/applications such as Foundation Fieldbus builder, Engineering Station builder and DCS Subsystems such as Machine Condition Monitoring (MCM), Speed Governor, to fulfil his job requirements.

  3. Explore and evaluate potential implementation of new/state of the art technologies and digitalization in the field of OT digitalization based on business needs and strategic roadmap under the supervision of Senior Engineer DCS.

Framework Boundaries, Decision Making authority and responsibility:

  • The position of Engineer DCS is primarily responsible to ensure high availability, reliability, and integrity of the above-mentioned Industrial Control Systems including the DCS to maintain continues system functionality without interruption for the benefit of end users. 

  • Job holder in liaison with Senior Engineer DCS shall take technical decisions on network functionality such as risk evaluation, incident response plans, and security audits and administrative decisions such developing DCS guidelines. 

  • Also authorized to take all technical decisions to meet the requirement of the assigned project as per Company standards and international codes. 

  • Works with minimum supervision but discusses critical decisions with the Senior Engineer DCS/Superintendent and work is subject to review against performance measures.   

  • The job holder must work within tight budgetary constraints as the over-runs are subject to intense scrutiny. 

  • The job holder is directly responsible for evaluating the use of systems and products used on all approved projects and certain expense projects handled by the Section.

  • The job holder is required to ensure that security strategy, Policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to while implementing the projects and servicing the business needs of the end users. 

Knowledge Skills and Experience: 

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Control Engineering, Instrumentation, Electrical or Electronics or equivalent.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the oil refining, oil and gas production or petrochemical industries.

  • A thorough knowledge of the above-mentioned ICS including the DCS engineering such as Logic Charts, Sequence Tables, Subsystems interfacing and industrial networks and protocols.

  • A thorough knowledge of International Standards i.e. ISO, ISA, IEC, NIST, etc. and best practices related to cyber security.

  • Experience in handling projects and providing engineering support services for ICS and OT in an operating refinery environment.

  • Ability to articulate technical DCS advice directly to key stakeholders and Senior Management.

  • Excellent analytical and good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Must have the ability to write clear and concise reports, letters, proposals, memoranda, and presentations.
