The Role

At TigerData, formerly Timescale, we empower developers and businesses with the fastest PostgreSQL platform designed for transactional, analytical, and agentic workloads. Trusted globally by thousands of organizations, TigerData accelerates real-time insights, drives intelligent applications, and powers critical infrastructure at scale. As a globally distributed, remote-first team committed to direct communication, accountability, and collaborative excellence, we're shaping the future of data infrastructure, built for speed, flexibility, and simplicity.

We’re hiring a Head of Developer Relations and documentation to lead the way TigerData engages developers through content, community, advocacy, education, and open-source contributions.

This is a player-coach role. You’ll lead a team of senior ICs—developer advocates, community builders, editors, and technical writers—while contributing directly as a creator, engineer, and open-source participant.

You’ll work in tight partnership with Product, Product Marketing, and Engineering, ensuring developer-facing programs align to the roadmap and go-to-market strategy. You’ll also coordinate across the broader Marketing team to connect your work to brand, awareness, and funnel goals.

As part of this role, you will be expected to contribute to TigerData's open-source projects—and foster a team culture where open-source contributions are a core part of DevRel and documentation work. Your team won’t just write about TigerData—they’ll build with it and for it.

What You’ll Own
  • Team Leadership: Manage and coach a team of senior ICs across DevRel, community, docs, and editorial

  • Open Source Participation:

    • Personally contribute to TigerData's open-source ecosystem (e.g., TimescaleDB, pgvectorscale, integrations)

    • Set a team-wide expectation of regular, meaningful OSS contributions—from bug fixes to examples to docs improvements

  • Developer Community: Own and scale TigerData's developer community programs:

    • High-touch: Champions, contributors, OSS collaborators

    • Low-touch: Forums, async channels, scalable content, self-serve support

  • Technical Content & Education: Oversee strategy and execution for blog posts, tutorials, integrations, demos, and onboarding content

  • Documentation Strategy: Lead efforts to improve structure, IA, onboarding flows, and overall documentation experience

  • Cross-functional Alignment: Work closely with PMM, Product, and Engineering to ensure content and community efforts support roadmap and product adoption

  • Execution: Be a high-impact IC—write content, contribute code, engage developers, give talks, support community

  • Systems & Metrics: Build frameworks to measure developer engagement, community health, OSS impact, and feedback loops into product

You Might Be a Fit If You
  • Have led Developer Relations and/or Documentation teams at developer-first companies (infra, OSS, tools, platforms)

  • Have managed senior ICs and know how to lead with context, not control

  • Are a builder and contributor: you don’t just advocate—you publish, fix, improve, and engage

  • Have contributed to open-source projects yourself and understand how to lead DevRel in OSS-native environments

  • Are a strong cross-functional operator—deeply collaborative with PM, PMM, and Eng

  • Have experience building and scaling developer community programs (high-touch + low-touch)

  • Can explain complex technical concepts clearly and credibly—whether in writing or live demos

  • Have experience with database systems, time-series data, real-time apps, or ML/AI infra

Bonus Experience
  • Engineering background

  • Deep familiarity with databases  and/or OSS contributor dynamics

  • Built partner and integration ecosystems

  • Led or scaled documentation and learning content programs

You Might Not Be a Fit If
  • You can’t travel

  • You prefer a narrow, hands-off leadership role over active contribution and coaching

  • You’re not comfortable working in or contributing to open-source environments

  • You shy away from ambiguity, iteration, or fast-paced experimentation

Our Commitment:
  • We respond to every applicant.

  • We review applications fairly and objectively, and shortlist based on relevant skills and experience.

  • We ensure clear and timely communication throughout your candidate journey.

  • We maintain a rigorous interview process with a high bar, designed to give you the opportunity to meet various team members you'll collaborate with across our organization.

What We Do

Timescale is addressing one of the largest challenges (and opportunities) in databases for years to come: helping developers, businesses, and society make sense of the data that humans and their machines are generating in copious amounts.

TimescaleDB is the only open-source time-series database that natively supports full-SQL, combining the power, reliability, and ease-of-use of a relational database with the scalability typically seen in NoSQL systems. It is built on PostgreSQL and optimized for fast ingest and complex queries. TimescaleDB is deployed for powering mission-critical applications, including industrial data analysis, complex monitoring systems, operational data warehousing, financial risk management, and geospatial asset tracking across industries as varied as manufacturing, space, utilities, oil & gas, logistics, mining, ad tech, finance, telecom, and more.

Timescale is backed by NEA, Benchmark, Icon Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Two Sigma Ventures, and Tiger Global.
