RK&K is hiring a Civil Designer to join our Traffic Design team in Virginia Beach, VA. This is an opportunity to build your career with a leading transportation engineering firm while contributing to projects that improve the safety, mobility, and reliability of our transportation infrastructure.
As part of our Virginia Beach team, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and designers on a variety of transportation projects throughout the region. You’ll gain hands-on experience in traffic design, collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines, and develop your technical skills while taking on increasing responsibility as your career grows.
*This is a part time role.
Essential Functions
- Work alongside experienced engineering professionals to develop plans, drawings, details, and calculations for traffic and transportation projects.
- Assist with the design and preparation of traffic signal, signing and pavement marking, and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans.
- Develop and revise CADD drawings and plan sheets using MicroStation and other design software in accordance with project and agency standards.
- Prepare traffic design details, quantities, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Perform engineering calculations, measurements, quantity takeoffs, and design checks under the guidance of experienced engineering staff.
- Coordinate with roadway, drainage, structures, utilities, and other disciplines to integrate traffic design elements into overall transportation plans.
- Review plans and design documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable project and agency standards.
- Incorporate comments and revisions resulting from internal quality reviews, agency feedback, and project coordination.
Required Skills and Experience
- Associates Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- Passion for transportation engineering
- 0-5 years of Engineering experience
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Excellent Math skills
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
- Working knowledge of Microstation or other CADD software preferred
- Previous internship or work experience in the transportation or project management field
