Position Overview:
Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to join our team as the Vice President of Design - Sports and ESPN. In this pivotal role, you report directly to the SVP of Design for Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology, will be responsible for shaping the creative direction of our sports coverage and innovation across all media platforms. You will lead a team of talented designers and collaborate closely with various stakeholders to create compelling and innovative designs that captivate sports fans worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Strategy: Develop and implement design strategies that align with ESPN's brand identity and elevate our sports content across all platforms.
  • Creative Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of designers, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Sports Coverage: Drive the design direction for sports coverage, including live events, studio shows, digital content, and mobile apps.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with content creators, producers, engineers, and other key stakeholders to ensure a seamless integration of design elements throughout all sports media productions.
  • Innovation: Stay abreast of design trends, emerging technologies, and industry best practices to drive innovation and maintain ESPN's position as a leader in sports media design.
  • User Experience: Champion user-centered, fan-first design principles to deliver intuitive and engaging user experiences across all platforms.
  • Brand Consistency: Ensure consistent application of Disney and ESPN's brand guidelines and visual identity across all design projects and media outlets.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the design department's budget, resource allocation, and project prioritization.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in design, Graphic Design, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in design, with at least 8 years in a leadership or management capacity.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing exceptional design skills and innovative work in the sports media industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of current design trends, user experience principles, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire creative teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality design solutions on time and within budget.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and strategies to diverse stakeholders.
  • Passion for sports and a deep understanding of sports media and its evolving landscape.
  • Experience influencing, defining, and scaling complex multi-divisional platform design strategy and innovation in a fast-paced highly matrixed organization and environment.

The hiring range for this position in California and New York is $219,268 to $294,140 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
