Your Role and Responsibilities

The User Experience Designer will support projects with public service clients in DOD and Federal Government. The UX Designer will work closely with diverse teams and clients to create world-class customer/citizen experiences and designs. The UX Designer will guide clients through the Design Thinking process from workshop sessions to the creation of design artifacts (e.g., personas, journey maps, prototypes, design systems, and other UX artifacts). The UX designer is expected to remain current on emerging design trends and technologies (demonstrated by a portfolio).

  • Lead experience design activities such as UX research, interviews and facilitate workshops, in an Agile environment
  • Synthesize research findings and experience strategy to craft user experiences that connect people in meaningful, enduring ways with products, services and brands
  • Leverage scenarios and storytelling in the creation of workflows, flowcharts, story mapping and low to mid-fidelity prototypes
  • Own responsibility for day-to-day activities for UX workstreams; Clearly deliver ideas to cross-functional teams
  • Provide information verbally and visually through low- and mid-fidelity renderings and clickable prototypes
  • Test and validate working hypotheses through usability testing of wireframes, clickable prototypes and published product, and participate in design critique
  • Work with UX Designers, Visual Designers, Experience Strategists, Researchers and Product Managers to understand users' needs and behaviors for the industries in which they work
  • Deliver, review and critique the UX Designs of a multi-skilled design team to ensure effective and rich designs (great interaction, visual styling, consistent and appropriate use of voice and tone, etc.)

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in design projects.
  • At least 3 years of experience in areas such as customer strategy, user research, information architecture, customer experience design, product design or other similar areas.
  • At least 5 years of experience in leading small/medium-sized projects, including the ability to navigate scope, work with large teams and present ideas to clients
  • At least 5 years of experience with Federal/DoD clients
  • Thorough knowledge of user-centered design principles and traditional design principles, with expertise in how to apply them within a visual design system.
  • Experience working in Agile environments
  • Online design portfolio for review



Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • Data visualization skills
  • Actively engaged in the UX community and in tune with the latest developments in the industry
  • Master's Degree in User Experience Design, Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science
  • Ability to define product requirements based on user and stakeholder research
  • Strong understanding of web technologies such HTML, CSS and JavaScript
