Boeing Global Services Customer Experience (BGS CX) is seeking a Senior User Experience (UX) Designer to support our GOLD Enterprise Service Platform (GOLDesp) product portfolio in Tapestry Solutions. Define and lead UX strategy supporting the modernization of the military's leading maintenance and supply software. This position is perfect for someone excited by the world of aviation and the challenge of introducing UX practice to an innovative, agile development team at enterprise scale.
GOLDesp is Boeing's industry leading solution for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) and supply chain operations supporting defense, commercial, and space customers worldwide. It even supports IT maintenance operations for the International Space Station. We need help modernizing two to three hundred single-page web apps, serving between 40 to 60 personas, using consistent, user-centered design principles and standards.
You will join a small design team composed of subject matter experts, product management, and a senior developer, which supports multiple scrum teams. The portfolio recently adopted a Scaled Agile (SAFe) process. Design work is primarily done in Sketch and InVision (Figma coming soon). The team is primarily located in San Diego but includes members in Vancouver and the UK. Most team members are currently working from home, and we expect to move forward with a hybrid model.
You will also be part of the larger BGS CX organization of over 100 researchers, product designers, and data analysts where you will benefit from, and contribute to, our DesignOps initiatives, such as our design system, training program, ResearchOps, and tools working groups. You will report to a UX manager with over 20 years of experience in the design industry who cares deeply about mentorship and career development.
Activities & Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform user research activities to discover, understand, and document needs.
  • Work with product managers to analyze research results, and create artifacts, such as journey maps and storyboards, to communicate user needs and product visions, facilitating team decision-making.
  • Develop solutions through brainstorming, sketching, task flows, UI mockups, and prototypes, regularly seeking feedback from team members and customers.
  • Clearly and confidently present work to product management and other stakeholders.
  • Advocate for user needs throughout the design and development process.
  • Work closely with developers to ensure feasibility and accurate implementation.
  • Conduct usability testing, and work with data analysts to track and analyze customer experience metrics.

This position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform work onsite at the listed location option.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • 3 years of experience with UX design
  • Experience leading the end-to-end design process
  • Able to plan and conduct a variety of UX research methods, such as user interviews and usability testing
  • Proficiency with current design and prototyping tools, such as Sketch, InVision, and Figma
  • Experience teaching a team to adopt a user-centered mindset, as well as appropriate UX methods and processes


Preferred Qualifications (Education/Experience)

  • Graduate-level degree in a UX-related area of study
  • Experience in aviation, aerospace, defense, or maintenance industry
  • Experience working in SAFe or Agile teams
  • Experience with speech and AR UIs
  • Experience facilitating design workshops


Typical Education
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., PhD + 4 years' related work experience, Master + 7 years' related work experience, 13 years' related work experience, etc.).

Summary pay range: 127,500 - 172,500
