The Role

Company Description
Reverb is a leading online marketplace for buying and selling new, used, and vintage musical instruments. Since launching in 2013, Reverb has grown into a vibrant community of buyers and sellers all over the world. By focusing on inspiring content, price transparency, musician-focused eCommerce tools, a music-savvy customer service team, and more, Reverb has built an online destination where the global music community can connect over the perfect piece of music gear.
We believe that music makes the world a better place, which is why our mission is to make the world more musical. Sales on Reverb help support Reverb Gives , which provides youth music education programs across the world with instruments they need to make music.
Job Description
Cadence, the Reverb design system, empowers our designers and developers to deliver high-quality, consistent, and accessible features in our Web product and native apps. We are looking for an expert design technologist (also often styled as UI Engineer) to help grow and develop Cadence and our library of tools, components, and guidelines.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Product Design Manager. For candidates located in NYC, San Jose, San Francisco, or Seattle, please visit this link for compensation information. For candidates in all other eligible locations, the base salary range will be $114,000 - $148,000 USD per year.
\nA successful Design Technologist at Reverb is:
Cross-functional: can facilitate teamwork, understanding, and shared concerns between designers & engineers. Seeks to deepen the technical proficiencies of all product team members through shared language and translation of basic technical & design concepts.
Forward-thinking: can help designers see technical solutions to design problems, and help engineers understand the power of design. Ensures technical feasibility & design fidelity.
Multidisciplinary: skilled at design, front-end development, and manifesting the former through the latter. Can align a React component with a Figma equivalent to ease the handoff between designers & developers.
Systems-centric: responsible for building solutions that are informed by and feed back into our existing ecosystems (codebase & visual design resources).
In this role you will:

  • Work on the Design Systems squad with other Design Technologists, helping grow and shape the future of design systems at Reverb.
  • Regularly partner with product squads (engineers & designers) to collaboratively apply, adapt, and develop web UI building blocks and patterns.
  • Hold yourself and others to a high standard for robust, accessible, flexible building blocks that are straightforward to implement and true to its original design specification.
  • Approach your work with a systems mentality: prioritize solutions that grow and mature our design system, while implementing one-off code solutions clearly and intentionally, allowing for clear isolation and ease of removal.
  • Account for non-visual accessibility needs (e.g. ARIA standards & screen reader considerations).

Qualifications

  • An outstanding body of work illustrating a strong attention to detail, thorough understanding of interaction flows, and top-tier interfaces carried through from design to user-facing product
  • Ability to put yourself in the shoes of a designer or a developer and empathetically speak to their needs and driving motivations
  • Experience communicating sophisticated technical concepts in language that meets people from other roles where they are
  • Experience crafting library-level SCSS and React systems

Additional Information
Remote-eligible roles (as indicated in the location header of each job description) are available in all U.S. states except Alaska and Hawaii. Remote roles are currently only available within the U.S. unless otherwise specified in the specific job description.

  • Ways to give back to your community through a charitable contribution match and volunteer time off
