Hands-on research skills
UXR team members must be prepared to plan and lead user research to discover insights firsthand. This is not the shop where you sit back and watch vendors. We are looking for people who can strike a balance between rigor & speed throughout.
Ability to connect insights to design
The insights and information drawn from research must be translated into an inspirational and useful foundation for design.
Designers coming to research and researchers coming to design
We are open to people who have a background in design but who have moved through their experiences into to the world of research. And we are also open to researchers (sociologists, anthropologists, psychologists, etc.) who have made their way to the world of design.
Essential duties:
Help teams prioritize what they want to learn from user research
Help teams strategically decide what kinds of users to invite to participate
Draft recruiting screeners, and help teams settle on non-leading research scenarios
Facilitate sessions in as neutral and natural a way as possible
Analyze HD, eyetracking, or MORAE footage and identify relevant behaviors
Be thorough, and actually enjoy watching a study’s footage, and get past the obvious
Create affinity groupings of behaviors or insights and determine findings and product design recommendations
Edit and produce highlight reels
Document and communicate findings and recommendations
Play well with others and generally avoid: 1) yelling, 2) throwing things, or 3) otherwise expecting the world to change overnight such that everyone desperately loves making things easy to use regardless of cost or other time commitments
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in conducting design research
Masters or PhD in Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Technical Communication, Human Computer Interaction, Visual Design, or relevant experience
Excellent communication skills
Ability to maintain a neutral demeanor during sessions
Experience with Tobii, MORAE, Camtasia, Premiere, UserTesting.com, front-end web technologies a plus
Cloud-based business communications system experience a plus
Work ethic, good personal hygiene, and not taking up both armrests a plus
